THE US NAP (BEST BET) NEEDS A WINNER AND RUNS AT SANTA ANITA TONIGHT!

Race 9 Santa Anita 12.05 As Time Goes By (11/10)

Progressive filly who was back to her best down to this grade winning well at Los Alamitos last month; found plenty off the bridle and dug in well at the finish to prevail with a bit to spare; hard to oppose again here.

Following a disappointing display at the Breeders’ Cup it was good to see AS TIME GOES BY back in the winners enclosure at Los Alamitos last month. She is a very smart filly and just went too hard when running below par on penultimate start. She showed her class at this level last time and a similar performance here will suffice. She remains lightly raced for her age so there should be further improvement to come yet. Park Avenue has won her last two in good style and deserves a crack at this level but she will definitely find it tougher. Moonlight D’Oro was third to the selection last time so looks held on that but it wouldn’t be a massive surprise if she was the one to chase her home tonight.

Race 7 Santa Anita 11.05 Rockefeller (6/5)

Improving colt who made a bright start winning on debut before being pitched in at the top level in a Grade 1 here in October; not disgraced but found it a bit too hot so soon; back to form at this level last time; more to come now.

This is a good race but I’m keen to side with ROCKEFELLER for Bob Baffert. He has the top 2 in the betting but with Flavien Prat on this colt by Medaglia d’Oro I think he looks to be their leading chance. He impressed last time showing a good attitude to find again close home and with more to come gets a confident vote to make it 3 wins from just 4 starts. Stablemate Newgrange made a promising start winning on debut at Del Mar but this is tougher. He is open to improvement but might just find this test coming too soon. I still expect him to finish second and give the stable a 1-2. Mackinnon has looked impressive on turf winning 3 in a row but needs to transfer that to dirt to have a say here.
