NAP – Best selection of the evening
Southwell 6.20 Carausius (5/4)
3-time C&D winner who travelled notably well on penultimate start before staying on strongly and winning impressively; backed that up over track and trip again last month; up another 6lb but should win again.
The hat-trick beckons for CARAUSIUS who is a perfect 3-3 over this C&D. He was particularly impressive on penultimate start and got the job done again at cramped odds last time. If he is in the same form up 6lb he will take all the beating again under Kieran Shoemark. Soaring Star is a decent yardstick and he only went down a neck over C&D last time. This does look tougher but a similar performance here would see him emerge as the main danger to the selection. Shake A Leg was a good second last time and off the same mark should also be in the shake-up but it’s hard to go against this favourite who is clearly thriving right now and has looked so effective over track and trip.

Newcastle 1.55 Gallic Geordie (11/8)
Took form up a notch making a winning return at Lingfield and not looked back following up impressively next time at the same venue and again at Newbury last time; up another 9lb but clearly thriving; the one to beat.
Connections look to have found a good opportunity for GALLIC GEORDIE to bring up the four-timer! He has been hiked up a further 9lb but he has been winning as he pleases and a repeat of that last run would probably see him home and hosed again. The opposition all have questions with the danger likely to be Rollerruler. He won at Hexham in November but was beaten 9 lengths and finished nearer last than first at Carlisle. He should bounce back but even if he does he has enough to find with the favourite. Da Vinci Hand won at Catterick but this is tougher and he is up 4lb so also needs to improve. Time Leader goes chasing for the first time so will come on for the experience, best of the rest.
