Wincanton 1.50

A decent race to kick off a good card at Wincanton on Wednesday. The hat-trick seeking SHIROCCO’S DREAM looks worth siding with again for Colin Tizzard and Brendan Powell. This £260,000 purchase has turned her form up a notch recently winning gamely at Exeter before following up convincingly at Sandown last month on handicap debut. She is up 5lb but has had a wind op since and remains open to further improvement.

The danger looks to be Electric Annie for Jack Barber. She improved to make the breakthrough here last month and even with a 10lb rise may be ahead of the handicapper. Hotter Than Hell also deserves a second look but does need to bounce back.

Wincanton 2.20

Only the 4 horses are set to run here with it very much looking between the top two in the ratings. There isn’t much between them but I give the slight edge to JAY BEE WHY who has been running some very good races behind My Drogo. This looks a fair bit easier and a run to the level of his second at Exeter would be enough to win this. He is a shade of odds-on at the time of writing but it wouldn’t surprise me if he was well backed.

Danny Kirwan has 4lb to find with the selection on ratings but is relatively unexposed over fences and will be the main danger. Certainly Red wasn’t beaten far when only fourth at Fontwell but has work to do now sent chasing.

Jay Bee Why 6/4

Wincanton 2.50

A tricky race where most of the field come here with something to prove. I know KAKAMORA hasn’t been at his best the last twice but his form from last year reads well and down a further 4lb I think there is good reasoning to think he can rediscover some form here. If he does he will be a danger to all as I do think he has a future in this sphere given his size and scope. James Bowen is also a really positive jockey booking.

Dorking Lad is the likely danger but he is a hard horse to get right and it will take an inspired ride from Jamie Moore to get his head back in front. Luckofthedraw should also be in the mix given his recent form. Pasvolsky won at Plumpton but this is much tougher.

Wincanton 3.20

This looks a fairly weak race with plenty of these struggling for form at present. FELTON BELLEVUE has a great chance of making it two wins in a row after he won well at Hereford earlier this month. He has only been put up 5lb for that win which may not bet enough to stop him in this field. That fitness edge he holds over his main market rival could make all the difference and he is likely to be sent off a short priced favourite.

The main danger is Max Dynamo who ran well at Fontwell when last seen but that was back in May and the 12 year old is now running off of a 7lb higher mark so it won’t be easy. Of the rest Sandford Castle could fill the places based on some of his form last year.

Wincanton 3.50

This is a good race with the front pair both looking potentially smart. I’m going to side with AUCUNRISQUE for Chris Gordon. This horse picked up plenty of experience in bumpers and following a really promising hurdles debut where he missed just a nose he made no mistake slamming a subsequent winner at Plumpton. That was impressive as he jumped slickly before keeping on strongly. A mark of just 117 looks to underestimate him.

Knickerbockerglory put it altogether to win by 15 lengths at Taunton last time. That was equally as impressive and he is clearly going the right way now after taking a bit of time to come to hand. He definitely looks the danger but 122 is certainly no given.

Wincanton 4.20

I am going to take a chance on ABUFFALOSOLDIER to overturn the odds-on favourite Grosvenor Court. He has run twice in national hunt flat races with a third on debut followed up with a win. He is clearly improving with every run and I think he will go very well on his hurdles debut. He’ll likely need to step forward again but the extra yardage looks sure to suit on breeding so he gets a confident vote to come out on top in the finale.

Grosvenor Court is the main danger in a contest that lacks strength in depth but he does have to carry a penalty for his win over hurdles at the track last year. The 7lb the selection get is likely to be key here and I expect them to go off closer in the market.
