Doncaster 12.15

A good race to kick off the card at Doncaster on Friday afternoon and I’m going to take a chance on FULL OF SURPRISES upsetting the favourite Nocte Volatus here. She ran her best race to date over fences at Catterick on first start following a wind op last month and if she builds on that she could get seriously competitive here off a mark of 107. The step up in trip could help her improve and I think she’s too big in the betting at 11/2.

Nocte Volatus is the obvious one but as he has shown already he isn’t the most straightforward running out at Hereford last time. He could get back on track here but is short enough. Ahead Of The Field scored at Southwell but failed to match that form last time so will need to bounce back to have a say here.

Doncaster 12.45

Not the deepest race and I think SKYTASTIC wins if anywhere near full fitness on his hurdling debut. He won both races in the national hunt flat sphere last season and should have a great chance to make it 3 wins from 3 if not needing the run. He has been fresh for both his previous runs so it isn’t really a worry and he will take some beating. Connections will be hoping he can win this before being targeted at bigger prizes.

Godrevy Point looked a bit of a lost cause before a much improved performance at the track last time out. If in the same form he could be a danger but the selection seemingly has more scope. Commodore Miller is the other who could be a threat after running very well on hurdles debut but this looks a better race than his second at Fakenham.

Skytastic 13/8

Doncaster 1.15

He will need to bounce back from that Cheltenham blip but back down to 2 miles FUNAMBULE SIVOLA is likely to be popular here. He chased home Shishkin when last seen over this trip and his run when second in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon was a good effort. He will likely race prominently under Charlie Deutsch and should take a bit of beating. Even at the time of writing he is proving popular in the betting.

Before Midnight arrives in good nick after winning four in a row and then wasn’t massively disgraced when fourth in the Desert Orchid Chase last month. He will find this easier so has to be a threat to the selection. Moonlighter was back to form when third last time and is on a good mark so also has to enter calculations.

Doncaster 1.50

This race looks a really good quality renewal and although she is shorter a price than I thought she would be WHITE PEPPER is the most likely winner. She has won twice over hurdles already and ran a good third behind Sea Sessions at Aintree. She now gets weight from her which should see the form reversed. Like most of these is still improving and I think she will be tough to beat.

Sea Sessions is the main danger with form of 221 over hurdles but the extra 5lb she carries won’t make it easy. La Renommee might be underestimated on her British debut as she has good form over hurdles already and could make her presence felt. Galah also deserves a mention but that wasn’t a strong race she won last time.

Doncaster 1.50

White Pepper 6/4

Doncaster 2.25

A lot of unknowns here which makes it a tough race to dissect but I’m going to give FOXHOLLOW a tentative vote to make a winning start. He is by Westerner and cost €20,000 as a foal. He is a half-brother to Jetoile and looks the part on paper. Connections will be hopeful he can get competitive on a racetrack for the first time hopefully making the trip over from Ireland worthwhile.

Another newcomer Ridgeway is trading as favourite for Dan Skelton. He did well on the Flat for Eve Johnson Houghton and looks to have a future in this sphere. He will go well but is a bit short in the market. Imperial Hope sets the standard of those with experience and has had a wind op and been fitted with a hood so could run well too.

Doncaster 2.25

Foxhollow 4/1 each way

Doncaster 3.00

A race that very much looks between the top 2 in the market with preference for ACE TIME. He has won his last two runs over hurdles with relative ease. He goes up 8lb in the handicap but they look to have found another race for him to add another win to his decent run of form. He will likely be held up again so is going to need usual luck in-running when coming through but other than that hard to pick holes in.

On current form Killane is the one that could give him something to think about if running to the level of his form at Newcastle 2 runs back. Tommaso is entitled to go well too on handicap debut so the market will be interesting on that one. Samaritan is another one likely to do better handicapping but this is a tough enough start.

Doncaster 3.00

Ace Time 9/4 EYE CATCHER

Doncaster 3.30

This looks a great opportunity for ANGELS LANDING here. If you forgive her that Aintree blip then she has very strong claims. She bounced back to chase home a nice horse in Dr T J Eckleburg at Ludlow last time and that form would give her a very sound chance now tackling handicap company. This might not take a great deal of winning so an opening mark of 100 looks well within reach.

Yambocharlie is the closest rival in the betting and like the selection he is likely to improve now handicapping. Les’s Legacy was pulled up at Musselburgh but on previous form would have a squeak. Enough to prove on the balance though. Mind Hunter has first-time blinkers which replace cheekpieces and that also makes him potentially interesting.

Doncaster 3.30

Angels Landing 6/4

Doncaster 4.00

In a race that doesn’t look overly competitive on current form I thought FLEXI FURLOUGH should be clear favourite and represents good value at the time of writing. She has been running so well without winning and with the handicapper dropping her an extra pound this looks like the ideal opportunity to get her nose in-front. Even though she only managed third at Wetherby they came 11 lengths clear from the rest.

Steinkraus is the main danger if his last run was just a blip as he was running really well before that distant third at Hereford. At a bigger price Classic Escape dropping right down the handicap could be handicapped to bounce back to form. Get Prepared has been nibbled at and should appreciate this sounder surface.
