Catterick 1.00

With ICONE D’AUBRELLE making his British debut he makes this race very interesting and is the one to beat if ready to roll. He won nicely on his racecourse debut in France and will likely improve a lot more on his next couple of runs. On what we know this race won’t require too much improvement to win and he could an exciting prospect for Neil Mulholland. 7/4 looks a fair price and I think he’ll prove popular come post time.

Cottingham sets the standard with 4 very good hurdle runs however I am not sure how much more he has to come having run to similar levels on all starts but is still the danger. Jaramillo also deserves a mention for Warren Greatrex but that fall on debut may well have knocked his confidence for now.

Here We Have It will likely end up well backed here but he didn’t make much of an impact on chase debut at Huntingdon and while this is easier eased 4lb I’m going to oppose him with WHEELBAHRI. The latter ran his best race to date when beaten narrowly into second at Ayr and if he builds on that again I think he can lay down a serious threat to the likely favourite. He remains open to improvement especially his jumping and should run well.

Bar the front pair Blueberry Wine also deserves a shout after winning at Sedgefield. He was brushed aside at Plumpton though so will need to put that disappointment behind him to figure here. Altumanina is 4lb out the handicap so this is another tough ask and Onenightintown is too unreliable to chance.

With the majority of the 5 runner field not looking particularly well handicapped MALIBOO has a great chance to land back-to-back wins. She really stepped forward over the longer trip at Huntingdon and could have plenty to come both over fences and trips around 3 miles. A repeat of that performance should see her take this and it’s no surprise to see her trading as a warm favourite at the time of writing.

In a weak field Dalyotin could be the danger if improving for his first run at this trip here at Catterick last month. No Hiding Place looked to need the run at Ayr on return last month and if he strips fitter from that run he might have something to say in the finish as well with Charlotte Jones claiming a handy 5lb again.

Just the 3 runners heading to post for this mares’ handicap chase and on first glance Alohamora looks to have a solid chance but at odds-on I just think that’s too short a price to back. I’m going to chance CHANTING HILL for Nick Alexander. This mare is still fairly lightly raced and showed a good attitude to win for the second time over fences at Kelso last March. She shaped better last time and if building on that could serve it up here.

Raddle And Hum is the outsider of the 3 but as the odds are suggesting she shouldn’t be entirely ruled out. She hasn’t been disgraced in all 3 chase starts so even from 4lb out the handicap she would still have a squeak. I think she’d need either of the other two to underperform though to have a serious chance of causing an upset.

Chanting Hill 5/2

This is a poor maiden which presents AMERICAN GERRY an opportunity to finally get his win after a run of three seconds on his three hurdle runs. His form looks a cut above the rest and you can see why he is odds-on at the time of writing. He should win as I would be surprised if one of these could improve past him. At his current odds though it is hard to recommend him as a bet so it might be worth doubling him up with something else.

Not What It Seems has had plenty of goes and Punta Prima could be the main danger if improving on his hurdles debut. He showed a brief glimpse of what he can do at Sedgefield on debut and is open to the most improvement. Seven Arches should be suited by the step up in trip so also has to be respected.

American Gerry 4/9

With Da Vinci Hand a non runner this morning DONLADD is now a confident play to come out on top here. He left his chase debut behind to finish a good third at Wetherby last month and off a 2lb lower mark he looks the one to beat if stepping forward again. The winner File Illico has since run well at Ffos Las and the second Relkadam won his next start so the form has substance.

Victory Echo shaped better when third over C&D last month and with blinkers on could be the main threat. Massini Man is on a long losing run but should run well. Got to be vulnerable for win purposes though.

Donladd 15/8

Catterick 4.15

This isn’t a deep race and it very much looks between the top two in the market. NOCTE VOLATUS could be very well handicapped based on his form and mark over fences. He has been in great form over the bigger obstacles and if he can get close to that over hurdles he wins this. He will be ridden forward and will look to dictate from flag-fall and I don’t see him being pegged back.

The danger is Shoughall’s Boy who has won his last two and even up another 5lb should be capable of giving the selection a race. Hard to see many of the others featuring but I guess Hartland Quay has to be considered in terms of a place after finishing fourth at Exeter last time.
