Race 4 Ballarat 4.00 Tauty (5/6)

Improving filly who needed the experience when down the field on debut but improved to finish third here and then stepped forward again on reappearance denied just a nose at Moe last month; more to come and well placed to score.

A lot like Stateside tonight there isn’t the greatest racing to get stuck into but TAUTY looks a standout at Ballarat in the early hours. She is a filly going the right way and won’t need much more to make the breakthrough here. She went down just a nose on her first start for 7 months so with added fitness alone that should see her take the beating let alone further progress. She has only had 3 starts so is almost certainly capable of better and should win this. Skybeam is a good looker and he made a bright start when third on debut at Cranbourne. With natural improvement he will emerge as the main danger to the favourite. Hard to see anything else getting involved with Heavy Duty best of the rest.

Race 2 Hawkesbury 3.25 Selhurst Park (6/5)

Good looking chestnut who was knocking on the door when last seen in the summer; likely to have matured since and this looks a great opportunity on return to make the breakthrough so worth keeping safe here.

This won’t take a lot of winning so SELHURST PARK is the one to side with. He showed enough as a 2yo to suggest he can take this out and given time to mature and strengthen up since this looks a good starting point. He will push forward and might not come back to them. Transformation is 0/8 but hasn’t been running badly and at least has fitness on side against the favourite. Still needs to improve to win this you’d think. Riviera Blue is unexposed so could have more to come but ran a stinker at Randwick last time so needs to leave that way behind to figure. Beckons still has potential and might be the value to hit the frame but again will need to progress. Good Deed could also feature at some point.
