Race 5 Stony Creek 4.30 Exceedingly Magic (7/4)

Promising mare who left debut run behind to go close at Mornington on return and then stepped forward again to win convincingly at Sale last month; scope to improve again and looks well placed to follow up here.

A small field here so I’m expecting last time out winner EXCEEDINGLY MAGIC to get on the speed again and dictate throughout. She impressed last time and is clearly improving with experience. She won’t need to find much more to see these off and I’m pleasantly surprised to see 7/4 available as I thought she might be a bit shorter than that. Cadboll has two wins from 4 starts but did run below par at Geelong last month and has a bit to prove following that. If he bounces back he might pose the greatest threat to the favourite. Brilliant Sapphire is more exposed than the two mentioned above but does arrive in winning form having got her head back in front here last time. This tougher.

Race 1 Scone 2.50 Fighting Magnus (2/1)

Improving sort who did well to get as close as he did last time given he had an awkward draw; further progress a near certainty and should appreciate this trip again so leading claims in this field; one to keep safe.

This might not take a great deal of winning so it looks a perfect opportunity for the improving FIGHTING MAGNUS to make the breakthrough. He went close at Newcastle last time and that was from a wide barrier so if he can improve on that I think he’ll take a lot of stopping here. I don’t see anything going well enough to hold him out so it will be disappointing if he can’t make the most of a good opportunity. Niccyas has knocked on the door the last twice but may end up filling that position again as I don’t really see him improving as such. Thieve has more to come but might need more time and experience to be seen to best effect. The Winter Sun best of the rest but definitely needs to improve.
