We’ve focussed on seven races and these are horses I am finding hard to oppose.

WHY YOU SHOULD BACK IT WITH BET365?

bet365 have now gone Non-runner No bet at the Cheltenham Festival plus they are offering Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG) on any bets placed from now until the Festival. This is great for taking a good price before hand and if it drifts you will get the better price if the SP is bigger. So you could get a bigger price than 90/1 but worst case you have 90/1 locked in!

ADD HONEYSUCKLE DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

What a way to kick off our Cheltenham Festival Acca in the Champion Hurdle! HONEYSUCKLE put in arguably her most dazzling display to win this last year by some 6 and a half lengths and while she may not have put in the most spectacular performance to win the Chanelle Pharma Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown last month she did it easily and for me she is impossible to oppose here. She is now a perfect 14-14 and is yet to know what it is like to lose a race. I don’t see this as the strongest of renewals and she has to go down as one of the ‘bankers’ of the week. The main danger in the betting is Appreciate It but for him to win this off a year layoff would be a phenomenal training performance from Willie Mullins and I just think he’ll be vulnerable in the closing stages. From an each way perspective Teahupoo might be value to chase the wondermare home.

ADD SIR GERHARD DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

I really thought Willie Mullins would send SIR GERHARD to the Supreme so it has caught me a bit by surprise to see him lining up here. This is definitely the weaker of the two races though and perhaps his thinking is that two and a half will just help his jumping as he has lacked fluency at times. There will be no hanging around in the Supreme so maybe this longer trip will help him get into stride before staying on best. I think what we do know is that this horse possesses a serious amount of talent and the feeling is we haven’t seen the best of him yet, far from it. He has gone 2-2 over hurdles since beating Kilcruit in the Champion Bumper last year and looks a really exciting horse. With stablemate Dysart Dynamo going for the Supreme and Ginto the Albert Bartlett Stage Star could be the one to chase him home. He is 3-3 over hurdles himself and looks to have a fair engine.

ADD SHISHKIN DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

The clash between SHISHKIN and Energumene in the Clarence House has been my highlight of the National Hunt season so far and it made it even sweeter the way Shishkin swooped late to nab the prize having looked briefly in trouble. That was his tenth win in a row and meant he remains unbeaten over fences with a perfect record of 7-7. It’s crazy to think Nicky Henderson has been blessed with the likes of Sprinter Sacre, Altior and now Shishkin. He really does fall into that category and with Cheltenham only going to help him further and heading left-handed I really can’t see Energumene reversing the form. What I do know is the latter is a serious horse himself and for him to get Shishkin out of his comfort zone says a lot about the quality he has too. I can see the pair battling this out again but I think it might be an even more convincing win for Shishkin.

ADD TIGER ROLL DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

How good would it be to see the legend that is TIGER ROLL bow out with a win? Not just a win but a Cheltenham Festival win that would see him win this for the fourth time in the past five years. He has been an unbelievable horse and it has been reassuring to hear the positive reports from Gordon Elliott on his well-being. It was good to see him show a bit more at Navan after pulling up at Aintree and he will be very much primed for this. He comes alive on this Cross Country course and given the weakness of the opposition it’s no surprise to see the bookies running scared as the tiger looks to roar one last time. I’m quite surprised to see stablemate Delta Work second favourite here as to me he looks a horse that has fallen out of love with racing. He was disappointing behind Conflated at Leopardstown and I don’t think he’ll take to this discipline.

ADD FACILE VEGA DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

I can’t wait to see FACILE VEGA let loose in the Champion Bumper! The way this horse won at the DRF last month was one of the most impressive performances in a National Hunt Flat Race that I have ever witnessed and that opinion has very much been backed up by his trainer Willie Mullins since. He showed an effortless cruising speed and left rivals standing to saunter home by 12 lengths. I know the yard saddle a few and Patrick Mullins has been talking up Redemption Day but I have no doubt he’ll ride Facile Vega and to me this Walk In The Park gelding looks to have a really bright future. The scary thing is he is likely to improve again for racing in a race that will be run at an end-to-end gallop and I can just picture him coming there swinging before showing the best acceleration up the hill. American Mike is respected but his sire have never had a Cheltenham winner.

Sixth and final selection in the acca

ADD BOB OLINGER DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

This is one of the best races of the Festival for me and I’m firmly in the BOB OLINGER camp. His only defeat has come at the hands of Ferny Hollow over hurdles and that horse would have been sent off a warm order for the Arkle if not for getting injured. He laughed at them in the Ballymore last year brushing aside Bravemansgame before pulling clear by over 7 lengths at the line. That horse has looked a serious chaser since so to beat him so easily then looks even better now. He is a perfect 2-2 over fences but hasn’t been foot-perfect so has come under scrutiny. The race he won at Gowran where he looked rather laboured Henry de Bromhead has had both A Plus Tard and Minella Indo beaten in so for him to handle that race despite being fresh and keen I thought was impressive enough. Better ground will help and I think we’ll see the best version of him next week.

Turners Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) 2m3f168y

Cheltenham Thursday 1.30 Bob Olinger (best price 11/10)

Seventh and final selection in the acca

ADD ALLAHO DIRECT TO BET365 BET SLIP

With a 12-length demolition job in this last year ALLAHO has to be one of the most confident bets of the week to reproduce that. His form is progressive and that romp at Thurles last time was as impressive as it gets given the nature of the race. He jumped well and made all and never looked in any danger. Fakir D’oudairies has since come over to these shores and won the Betfair Ascot Chase convincingly so the form has been franked since. He will go hard from the flag-fall and likely put these under pressure from an early stage. I don’t see anything good enough lining up against him to get him out his comfort zone and I’ll be very surprised if he is beaten. Energumene is trading as second favourite at the time of writing but we know he goes to the Champion Chase so we could be looking at one of the shortest priced favourites of the week here. Hopefully he obliges.
