Race 7 Caulfield 5.45 Alfa Oro (11/10)

Smart type who has won 6 times from 8 starts; won convincingly fresh up after three months at Moonee Valley last month; improving with every run and hard to stop again; looks the most likely winner.

Cracking racing overnight Down Under and our best bet runs at Caulfield. ALFA ORO is a winning machine and he looks sure to step forward from that winning return to make it 7 career wins from 9 starts. This is obviously tougher but he is drawn to go forward and should always be in the right position. Fabergino had plenty against her last time and she’s better than that. Looks the one to give the favourite most to think about but Garner also has the form to be a factor so isn’t entirely ruled out either. I’ll be surprised if Shamino or Graff are good enough and it’s 14’s bar those. The favourite is very much the one to focus on in current form and is fully expected to go in again.

Race 8 Randwick 6.50 Star Of The Seas (11/10)

Looks the class act in this field; placed twice in Group 1 company before finishing midfield in the Epsom Handicap where he couldn’t get a run; never run over this trip but shapes as though he’ll appreciate it and expected to have too much.

No surprise to see STAR OF THE SEAS a short price here for Chris Waller and James McDonald. This likeable chestnut has the best form on offer and looks to have a class-edge over these rivals. He placed twice in Group 1 company before finishing down the field in a fiercely competitive handicap last time. Only needs to reproduce what he’s been showing over this trip to go in here. Vanna Girl is the danger if there is one as she is expected to keep improving. Only other horse in the field that has real potential for me. Quintessa will find this much tougher than what she’s been contesting so is passed over. The Candy Man might be value to hit the frame as he has some useful form to his name.
