THE AUSSIE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS IN RACE 5 AT MUDGEE ON SUNDAY MORNING!

Race 5 Mudgee 4.25 Akasawa (11/8)

Promising type who made the perfect start winning easily at Muswellbrook in September last year, well on top in the closing stages having been backed; hampered on return but big run in defeat; fitter now and can improve so hard to oppose.

No luck for the Aussie NAP overnight but hopefully we can get back on track on Sunday as we head to Mudgee where AKASAWA looks poised to strike. He bolted up on debut when well punted and then returned from a break with a close-up second at the same track. He will be fitter now and goes up to a mile which will suit. Good draw so there’s lots to like. With Apex, The Brotherhood, Rodrick’s Secret and The Dark Knight all scratched at the time of writing his claims look even stronger. Ladylovestogamble has just 1 win from 9 starts but was only beaten just over a length last time and that form entitles her to go well. She has a tough draw out wide though so that poses a problem.

Race 7 Sunshine Coast 5.54 Southern Swing (15/8)

Progressive sort who is chasing a hat-trick after impressing again here earlier this month, justifying favouritism in the process; form stacks up and while this looks competitive he almost certainly has more to come.

The Aussie NB was back to winning ways overnight as Verry Elleegant bounced back! We head to Sunshine Coast in the early hours of Sunday morning and the hat-trick seeking SOUTHERN SWING looks worth keeping safe. His form reads well and he is getting better all the time. I expect the money to come for him again as even at 15/8 I think that’s a generous price. This does look quite a deep race but he has by far and away the strongest claims. He will be hitting peak fitness now and ticks plenty of boxes with the 3kg claimer going on. Quotant has been running well enough to have a say here so looks solid in terms of a place. Miss Silky also has to be considered.
