Race 3 Rockhampton 5.42 Sirfina (11/8)

Talented sort who had been running to a good level for a while so deserved to get his head back in front at Mackay earlier this month; this no tougher and good draw to go forward on the rail and kick clear; sure to go close.

The Aussie NAP was scratched overnight so we’re still chasing a FOUR-TIMER and we head to Rockhampton on Tuesday morning. SIRFINA possesses plenty of ability and if he runs to that level that saw him get his head back in front last time he is going to take a lot of pegging back. He has 4 career wins now and 8 placings from 16 starts so is building a nice profile. If this goes to plan I can’t see him beat. Boss Baby is a likeable mare and she is capable of a big run but she is more exposed than the selection. Looks the obvious danger though. Bold Hunter is capable but hasn’t been running that well lately and was only fifth of nine at Gold Coast last time which just isn’t good enough to get involved.

Race 3 Ballarat 5.00 Tramontana (6/4)

Strong colt who looks to be improving with experience and ran well again when fourth at Geelong last time; getting fitter all the time and looks the one to beat switching to the synthetic now; experience likely to count for plenty.

I think it’s hard to oppose TRAMONTANA here. He is definitely improving and he will find this easier than that latest assignment. Switching to the synthetic surface can see him step forward enough to open his account now. Alontro is the second fav but he is making his debut so he is likely to do better for the run. He is well bred but hasn’t had a trial for this so should come on physically as well as mentally. Run And Tell was only sixth here last time and he will need to improve significantly to land a blow here. Similar comments apply to Vegas Destiny who was nearly last on debut so he’ll need to leave that behind to have a say. Hard to see anything else at bigger prices getting involved in a weak race.
