Race 4 Townsville 3.55 Proximate Cause (4/5)

Smart type who has won 2 from 3 and wasn’t disgraced last time beaten less than 2 lengths in a much better race than this; hard to oppose back down in grade and with scope to improve again should take care of these.

I know PROXIMATE CAUSE might not go off much of a price but that’s with good reason as he looks progressive. He was beaten in a good race last time but this is easier and he is a strong fancy to make it 3 from his last 4. He is building a nice profile and looks one to keep firmly on side. Final Warning has 4 wins from 17 starts but that includes 9 placed efforts so has to be respected on placed form. Starfilly is also fairly exposed and arrives here chasing a hat-trick having won 3 of her last 4. She looks the value for a place and I actually think she might emerge as the main danger to the selection. Of the rest Dawn Too Good would have a squeak but he’d need to be at his best and wasn’t at Townsville latest.

Race 2 Northam 6.28 Heavenly Waters (5/6)

Likeable filly who improved to win at Belmont on penultimate start and the wide gate just cost her last time only run down late; recent form looks good enough to take this out so should be winning this; keep firmly on side.

With a good draw and the handy 3kg claim HEAVENLY WATERS is going to take a lot of pegging back here. She is a filly on the upgrade and is arguably a bit unlucky not to be coming here chasing a hat-trick. She looks a cut above these and should have too much speed for them. Blazing Billy has won 3 times from 8 starts so has to be respected. He needs to better his last two runs though to upset this favourite. American Queen ran well when second last time and if she builds on that again she should also be involved especially for a place. Shinju finished nearer last than first at Belmont and will need to leave that behind to get competitive. He’s just not running well enough right now.
