Race 6 Caulfield 5.20 Lighthouse (11/10)

Smart mare who has won 7 of her 13 starts and made it four in a row winning at Flemington at the start of the month; form stacks up and potential to do better again so should prove a cut above these.

I’ve been so impressed with LIGHTHOUSE recently and she really should extend the winning sequence at Caulfield overnight. She was taken back last time before being unleashed late and just looks a point and shoot kind of horse at the moment. She is still improving and looks well placed to go in again. Open Minded knows where the winning line is with 8 wins from 17 starts and he saluted the judge again over C&D last time. A repeat of that would see him emerge as the main danger to the selection. Crosshaven is a decent yardstick and he looks best of the rest with another creditable effort when fourth at Flemington last time. Excelida has won 2 of her last 4 and also has place claims.

Race 9 Belmont 9.00 Kick A Goal Son (11/8)

Likeable sort who won impressively over this trip on penultimate start and then went down just a neck at Ascot with the drop back in trip against him; still thriving and can improve again so leading claims.

It’s hard to get away from KICK A GOAL SON for Jason Miller and Clint Johnston-Porter. This horse remains in great form and the step back up in trip should see him return to the winners enclosure. He was a bit unlucky last time and I’ll be surprised if he’s beaten here. Dani Bella is the obvious threat as she continues to run to a good level finishing third at Ascot and then runner-up here last time. She goes well at this trip with 3 wins from 5 starts so has to be feared. Spillinova has 3 wins at this track but has gone off the boil a bit so is hard to recommend against a couple of improvers. Similar comments apply to Weaponson who is capable but is 0/7 at this track which makes him opposable as well.
