Race 5 Moonee Valley 9.15 Smirnova (5/6)

Exciting chestnut filly who impressed again to make it 3-3 when last seen at Canterbury back in November last year; looks to have a bright future and well placed to remain unbeaten here before going on to better things.

Hard to get away from the unbeaten SMIRNOVA at Moonee Valley on Friday morning. This filly is a perfect 3-3 and looks to have plenty more to come yet. She impressed again at Canterbury and put away since she should have matured further. She should take care of this field before being targeted at bigger prizes in time. Okay To Pay has won 3 of her last 4 and 5 from 8 overall so looks the danger. She lacks the star quality the fav brings to the table though so may always be playing second best. Lady Solly is a decent yardstick and she shouldn’t be underestimated but she will need more to cope with the front pair who both look promising enough. Hard to see anything at bigger prices springing an upset.

Race 5 Dubbo 3.49 Tornado Light (11/8)

Big strong mare who took her form up a notch to get back in the winners enclosure at Quirindi last month; sure to build on that now and this trip looks to suit her well so with more to come can follow up here.

I’m expecting TORNADO LIGHT to prove tough to beat at Dubbo in the early hours of Friday morning. She did it nicely last time and with an inside draw and a 2kg weight relief she looks to have plenty going for her. Island Press is the only conceivable danger for me. He impressed at Parkes and Bathurst before blowing out at Canberra. Consistency is his weak point so on that basis he is hard to side with but still looms as a danger. Cheeky Nugget ran well when runner-up at Mussellbrook last time but he can only be eyeing up a place to be honest and I can’t see him threatening the front pair for win purposes. Frome The Stars is also worth considering from a place perspective. Merdeka best of the rest.
