Race 1 Mackay 4.10 Augustawynd (5/4)
Promising filly who had excuses when only fourth at Rockhampton last time; fractious loading into the gate and met trouble early where she lost ground; open to improvement and can get firmly back on track here.
This looks a great opportunity for AUGUSTAWYND to get back on track. She ran a big race having been caught wide when second over shorter here on return and then had excuses when only fourth at Rockhampton last time. With added fitness under her belt and a better passage through she can go close. She has 3 wins and 9 placed efforts from just 14 starts so is building a nice profile. Fire King looks the danger but is more exposed than the selection albeit still a 3yo. I think the pair will battle this out. Tilly’s Secret has more to come too so shouldn’t be entirely ruled out but I like this set-up for the favourite and she should prove tough to beat. Golden Athena and Mishani Dreamer both need more.

Race 8 Benalla 7.00 Grey Whisper (6/4)
Progressive mare who comes here chasing a hat-trick; 2-2 over this trip and impressed with how she thundered home to win at Bendigo last time; scope to keep improving and looks the most likely winner again.
Sticking with the hat-trick seeking GREY WHISPER at Benalla on Tuesday. She is a mare going the right way and with more to come she can go in again. This trip looks her optimum and I think she’ll have too much for them at the business end. Hopefully she gets a decent pace to run down with the likes of She’s Original and Rocket Park potentially pushing forward. She’s Original landed back-to-back wins before only finishing sixth last time. If she can bounce back she may well emerge as the danger but enough to prove at the moment. Vici has just the 4 wins from 18 starts but is capable of going well so could get involved. Lady Silvair possibly best of the rest but a place likely her best bet.
