THE AUSSIE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS IN RACE 6 AT MURRAY BRIDGE ON WEDNESDAY!

Race 6 Murray Bridge 6.35 Nakheel (1/1)

Likeable mare who got too far back on return but wound up strongly to finish really well for second, denied just a neck at the line; should be sharper now and open to further improvement so big chance; sure to go close.

With no obvious pace on it wouldn’t surprise me if NAKHEEL was ridden a lot more prominently here. She just got too far back last time and they’ll be keen to have her in the firing line in this easier contest. She is nicely coming to the boil now and this represents a good chance for her to get back to winning ways. She has a progressive profile and deserves to be favourite here. Native Blue won well at Warracknabeal on penultimate start and backed that up with a solid placing at Gawler so looks the danger to me. Back Pocket justified good support and beat Masaru Warrior at Balaklava last time so that also brings him into it but he will need to find more to hold out this favourite.

THE AUSSIE NB (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS IN RACE 1 AT IPSWICH ON WEDNESDAY!

Race 1 Ipswich 3.33 Moreton Bay (11/10)

Improving filly who didn’t go unbacked on debut but inexperience cost her finishing fourth; stepped forward to go down less than a length at Gold Coast last time; more to come and looks well placed to strike now.

With fitness on side MORETON BAY can go one better here. She is a filly on the upgrade and from a low draw it wouldn’t surprise me if she pushed forward and controlled things here. She is improving all the time and won’t need to find much more to open her account. Ascot Express is back from a break and might need it. Doctor Teekay also makes his return after a good third at Toowoomba when last seen. He looks most likely to emerge as the danger to the favourite. Halfahope made a promising start but will need to improve quickly to land a blow in this deeper contest. It’s 12/1 bar those mentioned and hard to see anything else being good enough to land a blow.
