THE AUSSIE NAP (BEST BET) WON OVERNIGHT AND RUNS AT ASCOT ON SATURDAY!

Race 3 Ascot 5.54 Pure Devotion (6/5)

Improving mare who looked as though she’d improve for the run when only fifth on return and duly did so winning well over a mile here last time; back up in trip now and can progress again so obvious chance of following up.

The Aussie NAP landed overnight so we head to Ascot on Saturday morning with confidence high and I think PURE DEVOTION will be hard to beat. She impressed last time and the extra yardage looks right up her street here. She is a cut above these and with added fitness on side really should be taking this out. Reliable Star made a winning return at Belmont showing a good attitude but failed to back that up from a wide gate here last month. If she can put that behind her she definitely has a good chance of finishing second. Secret Pearl is exposed compared to the front pair but comes here in fairly decent form so may well run a nice race without quite being good enough against the two improvers.

Race 8 Flemington 6.10 Zaaki (5/4)

Talented sort who looked very good winning the Underwood at Sandown; failed to give his running when a shock third in the Caulfield Stakes; better than that though and worth forgiving; can get firmly back on track here.

I’m keeping the faith with ZAAKI here and if he bounces back then quite simply he will be too good for these. He was mightily impressive in the Doomben Cup and backed that up in the Underwood. He ran flat last time having raced keenly and I think it’s worth forgiving. If he is back to his best he will win this easily. Colette is on the upgrade and arrives chasing a hat-trick so looks the one most likely to profit if the fav does have chinks in his armour. Mo’unga is a stablemate to the favourite and also has potential so shouldn’t be easily dismissed. Hard to see any of the others springing an upset but Hungry Heart is quite a nice mare and shouldn’t be too far away. May well be the value to run into a place.
