Race 1 Ascot 4.05 Pure Devotion (1/1)

Talented mare who keeps improving and arrives here chasing a hat-trick after getting on top in good style over track and trip last time; more to come yet and looks well placed again to go in; one to keep firmly on side.

I can just seen Pike stalking on PURE DEVOTION before delivering her with a telling blow. She has won 3 times already and looks well placed to bring up the hat-trick. Reliable Star is a good looking mare who is still capable of better but she is strictly held by the fav on the last run and I can’t see her reversing the placings here. Black Shadow is exposed compared to the front pair and just isn’t running well enough to spring an upset here. Yadreamin’ shaped a bit better when fourth at York so also has to be respected but again the fav is progressive and should have too much. Buckeye Bullet is at least unexposed and could have more to come but might need more time to be seen to best effect.

THE AUSSIE NB (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS IN RACE 6 AT BALLARAT OVERNIGHT!

Race 6 Ballarat 4.00 Marabi (5/4)

Exciting mare who is a perfect 3-3 and was last seen bolting up at Moonee Valley back in March; not seen since but clearly very talented and with the promise of more to come fancied to make a winning return here.

Even with the layoff I’m keen to side with MARABI here. She is unbeaten winning all 3 starts and with more to come she can win this before being targeted at bigger prizes in time. Savannah Cloud is the closest in the betting and he has potential but has finished runner-up 4 times from 7 starts now and may well fill that same position again at Ballarat on Saturday. Imperial Hilton is 3 wins from 6 starts and in an ordinary race would have a big chance but I think the fav has a bit of star quality. Litchfield County needed his reappearance run at Bendigo where he had excuses and is better than that so might be the value to run into a place. South Parade looks a bit overpriced as well.
