Race 7 Albany 10.10 Soviet Spy (11/8)

Likeable type who impressed winning easily at Geraldton on penultimate start; had excuses last time but ran on strongly at the finish; still has more to come especially over this trip and looks the one to beat again.

This looks a great opportunity for SOVIET SPY to get himself back in the winners enclosure. His overall record reads 3 wins from 13 but that includes 4 seconds as well and he is still improving. He had excuses last time and with a clearer run through he should be hitting the line best under Lucy Warwick. Wild Fusion is exposed in comparison but did run well when second last time and has to be feared off the back of that. Frequent Friar needs more on what we’ve seen recently but certainly can’t be ruled out either. Eurasia has 5 wins from 40 starts but is 1 from 2 over the trip so might be another one battling it out for a place in behind this favourite who should have too much for them.

Race 5 Rockhampton 6.03 Whoa Lola (15/8)

Promising mare who has won 2 of her last 3 and impressed again to win convincingly over track and trip last month; form stacks up and with more to come should prove too good for these; good pace on which will help too.

This will be tougher for WHOA LOLA but she is a lower weight as a result and the apprentice claims 3kg as well. She is looking to make it 3 wins from her last 4 starts and if there is a good gallop on she should be finishing best of all under Tahlia Fenlon. Patrolling is the danger first-up but he might do better for the run and is too short in the betting. Address Unknown is a fair yardstick but she is already 0/3 at the trip and I think she’ll need to improve again to upset the front pair in here. Le Figaro won last time out but again this is tougher so she’ll need more too. It’s 22/1 bar the rest at the time of writing so hard to see anything springing a big upset here as the market has it spot on.
