Champion jockey title and Cheltenham Festival hopes hang in the balance following fall at Exeter

Richard Johnson has been taken to hospital on Tuesday afternoon after an awkward fall at Exeter following an unseat

If fears are confirmed then Champion Jockey Richard Johnson could be out for up to two months with a suspected broken arm. The jump jockeys’ title hopes are hanging in the balance following an unseat off his mount Westend Story in a novice chase at Exeter.

Dicky Johnson trails Brian Hughes just three winners in the title race and Westend Story was sent off the 11-8 favourite before making a bad mistake at the sixth fence.

It was an awkward looking fall and then he appeared to take a kick to his left shoulder from Fox Pro shortly after hitting the ground. He spent at least a minute on the ground before being helped to his feet. He has been taken to Exeter General Hospital for further examination.
