Smart horse who won his first two starts over fences impressively, looking a natural; close second in a Grade 1 at Sandown and with the promise of still more to come rates the one to beat here; fancied to make it 3 wins from 4 in this sphere.
I think it’s safe to say NUBE NEGRA has already made a better chaser than hurdler and the form of that close second in the Grade 1 Henry VII Novice at Sandown last time comfortably makes him the one to beat here. He doesn’t hold an Arkle entry but looks a smart sort and is likely to be targeted at the Grand National meeting instead. Rouge Vif made a winning start over fences at Market Rasen but let supporters down at Cheltenham and was beaten again at Kempton last time so needs more to trouble the selection. Precious Cargo was narrowly edged out last time and I see him as the main threat.

Uttoxeter 1.58 Jack Valentine (7/4)
Won his bumper here on debut for Venetia Williams and has gradually improved over hurdles albeit proving a bit expensive to follow; bumped into a nice prospect at Plumpton last time so with further improvement a distinct possibility looks sure to go close.
He has failed to fire in three starts over hurdles to date but this looks a good opportunity for JACK VALENTINE to get off the mark. He hasn’t run badly in defeat and has been bumping into some useful horses. This is easier and he should prove the answer following his best run to date when second to Kid Commando at Plumpton. It wouldn’t surprise me if his 5lb claimer went forward on him and made it a test. Tricky Customer improved to finish second at Exeter and looks the biggest danger. Darsi In The Park has potential but is back from a 135-day absence so might just need this.
