Not much form to go on in the opener tonight but what we do know is newcomer BEAUTIFUL ILLUSION has been popular in the betting since the market formed last night. Frankel filly Festive Love has come out so the price has contracted somewhat but even still she is clearly well fancied. She is well bred being out of a Group 2-winning dam and the market is suggesting she’ll know her job. Stablemate Distant Goddess has experience onside and will pick up the pieces if the selection does run green. The two stand out.

With Eglish out this looks an obvious chance for SOUND MIXER to open her account. She is sure to appreciate the extra furlong here the way she has been shaping and I’m expecting her to prove too strong for these. She was slowly away when beaten just a neck last time so it was a big run weighing everything up. She is open to further improvement and already comes out pretty well on the figures. Barbelo is probably the one I fear most now handicapping up in trip. Lakeview is another to note and has been popular.

Wolverhampton 6.10 Betway Casino Handicap (Class 2) 2m120y – 5 run
A disappointing turnout here and while Clap Your Hands has been impressive in recent starts I’m not totally convinced and a further 11lb rise certainly makes him opposable for me. Charlie D has won here before and didn’t shape badly when second to Selino over C&D last time. He’ll need to improve on that back from 115 days off but is a big danger. ISLAND BRAVE is the one I eventually came down on. He is a talented sort and remains unexposed at this trip so might prove the answer. A mark of 97 is well within reach in a race like this so the 9/2 makes plenty of appeal in my book.
Wolverhampton 6.40 Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap (Class 6) 1m1f104y – 8 run
I have my doubts over Cat Royale so that makes WINDSORLOT a confident selection here. So much so that I’ve included him in our Daily Lucky 15. He comes out well on the speed figures and won nicely over C&D on his penultimate start. He rather set it up for them last time but wasn’t beaten far and looks to have been found a good opportunity to get back on track. Aunt Helen is lightly raced and should have more to offer but she remains a maiden so needs a bit more to challenge the front two in the market. At a huge price it won’t surprise me if Cafe Sydney outruns her price-tag.
