Premier League Darts – Week 2 Nottingham
7PM START
After a 7/1 winning treble last week confidence is high as we head to Nottingham for Week 2 and the headline clash sees Fallon Sherrock take on Glen Durrant.
Sherrock makes her Premier League debut as a Challenger when she takes on three-time BDO champion Glen Durrant.
Gary Anderson and Peter Wright go head-to-head, while world number 1 Michael van Gerwent faces Daryl Gurney. Rob Cross opens the night against the red-hot Nathan Aspinall with Gerwyn Price facing Michael Smith.
Results from Week 1 (Aberdeen)
Michael Smith vs Glen Durrant 3-7
Gary Anderson vs Daryl Gurney 7-5
Michael van Gerwen vs Peter Wright 7-5
Nathan Aspinall vs John Henderson 7-3
Gerwyn Price vs Rob Cross 6-6
Rob Cross vs Nathan Aspinall – Aspinall to win
- Aspinall red-hot – He was in fantastic form on Sunday, winning a Players Championship title and hitting a nine-darter along the way
- Cross out of form – Rob Cross looks to be struggling for form right now. He found himself 4-2 down against Price before rallying but still ended up splitting the prize and looks vulnerable right now
- Summary Aspinall did only average 89 against Hendo but as he showed on Sunday he can improve plenty. That was his Premier League debut so nerves would have been high. I’m expecting a more accomplished performance here. It’s more alarming for Cross as he averaged a ton and still lost. He just seems to be lacking something at the moment so it makes Aspinall a confident selection to come out on top!
Glen Durrant vs Fallon Sherrock – Durrant to win
- Sherrock needs experience – There’s no doubt Fallon Sherrock has earned her place here but she looks up against it. Durrant is playing well at the moment and he beat Michael Smith convincingly in Aberdeen and he’ll be looking to make it 2-2 here. Fallon will need to step it up a gear to get competitive. She’s one for the future but I’m struggling to see her making an impact here.
- Durrant one to stick with – Durrant was a good price to beat Smith last week and even at his short price here against Sherrock I think he’s value. For some reason the bookies keep underestimating him and he might be a dark horse in this competition. He averaged 95 last week but it was his doubles that were so impressive (just two missed darts at the double).
- Summary Durrant should win and win convincingly. I might even play him on the handicap as a single (-4.5 legs is 7/4) I wish Sherrock well and hopefully she showcases some of what she is capable of but this is a tough match-up for her and I’m struggling to see any other outcome.
Daryl Gurney vs Michael van Gerwen – MVG to win
- van Gerwen back in business – MVG was brilliant last week averaging 104 in his 7-5 win over Peter Wright. He failed to reach the latter stages of either Players Championship events at the weekend and clearly isn’t at his best but I think he’s got lucky with the opponent he faces this week in Gurney
- Gurney not playing well enough – Even a below par MVG should be able to see off Gurney here. He averaged just 91 in defeat to Gary Anderson so might always be struggling tonight (MVG averaged 104 last week). MVG to win, Most 180’s and Highest checkout might be worth a go too.
- Summary I admit MVG hasn’t really looked himself lately (including over Christmas) but he is still playing well enough to win games like this and he is a confident selection to make it 2-2 in the Premier League
