Newcastle 5.10 Handicap 1m4f

With the second favourite Fair Star now a non runner this looks an obvious chance for TOP POWER to open his account. No doubt he’s been a bit frustrating but he posted another good effort when third at Newmarket in November and has been gelded since so should prove too good for these. Caius Marcius is a decent horse over jumps and might be good value to finish second to the favourite CAIUS MARCIUS TO WIN WITHOUT THE FAV He’ll be fighting that out with Desert Dawn who shaped with promise when fourth at Wolverhampton 25 days ago. The likes of Sea Me Win, Maharashtra and Shanghai City look out their depth.

I’m expecting LEXINGTON FORCE to prove hard to beat here for Richard Hannon. He put in a striking display to win on debut at Kempton, running down a Godolphin horse that had been backed off the boards. He still looked green before grabbing the bridle and quickening up smartly. With that experience under his belt he should make it 2-2 here. Theoule is an intriguing newcomer as he is related to some smart sorts. He’ll need to be ready to go on debut though to lay a glove on this favourite. Dande could only manage midfield on debut but should know more now and is also respected.

I wasn’t keen on the market principals here in Buniann and Gowanbuster and even Klopp for that matter so thought it was worth chancing one at a big price! ORIENTAL LILLY is just that for Jim Goldie. She is a 4-time C&D winner and wasn’t disgraced when last seen. She needs an end-to-end gallop so with plenty of pace on here could be flying home from out the clouds in the closing stages. Connections have reached for a first-time visor and she might be a touch overpriced. We’ve included here in our 116/1 Each Way Double BACK IT HERE Another to note at a big price is probably Quench Dolly who is plenty talented and makes her tapeta debut following a wind op.

Another favourite I’m keen to oppose here in Dark Silver. I’ve not been convinced Wirth him and am certainly willing to take him on at such a short price. MOUNTAIN BRAVE made every yard a winning one at Wolverhampton last time and was always holding on at the finish despite Barbelo closing in well. With further improvement on the cards she looks good value to overhaul the jolly. Saras Hope likes to go forward too but hopefully we can secure the lead. Speed Merchant continues to run well and is another not to discount lightly. I’ll be surprised if anything else is good enough to get involved.

Newcastle 7.15 Handicap 1m

A really tough race to try and work out. Aiden’s Reward has been well punted all day and he might take a bit of holding in a weak handicap but he hasn’t always been one for maximum faith so I’ll take him on. Two appeal at each way prices in KLIPPERTY KLOPP and WITH APPROVAL. The former finally opened his account over C&D earlier this month, holding on narrowly at the line. Trainer Antony Brittain has his horses in fine fettle so he might just be worth chancing to repeat the feat. Sometimes when a horse hasn’t got his head in front for a while and then does there confidence can be riding high. The latter is the other interesting one having won here before. He isn’t exactly reliable but if putting his best hoof forward can get involved for sure.

Newcastle 7.45 Handicap 6f

The last race of the evening and we’ve taken two against the field again in hope of finishing with a winner. SHARRABANG caught my eye running well at Wolverhampton over the minimum and backed that up with a good third to Star Cracker over C&D last month. I thought that was a very good run and if he can back that up he must come into the reckoning here. The other horse that I was interested in was LORD OF THE GLEN for Jim Goldie. It’s quite remarkable that he’s just a 5yo as seems like he’s been around for an age. He is off a mark of just 45 now and if he can return to the form that saw him go close in December then he might just be overpriced in a winnable race like this. Dangers include the favourite The Bull and Poppy May who needs to show more but again at this lowly level is capable.
