Sunday’s ITV Racing Preview
The 2000 Guineas certainly delivered with a thrilling finish as Kameko stormed home to get up and win narrowly under Oisin Murphy. The favourite Pinatubo could only finish third. On Sunday we are treated to the 1000 Guineas and it looks a cracker with some classy fillies putting their reputations on the line.
Our preview went live earlier in the week and you can view that here

Newmarket 1.50 Buckhounds Stakes (Listed) (1m4f)
Given how well Mark Johnston is going right now Communique is likely to be really popular here. Ryan Moore is booked for the ride and he does go particularly well over this C&D. That said he is at the top of the market and I think there’s value elsewhere so I’m looking to take him on. TRUESHAN was thoroughly progressive last season winning four of his five starts. He was last seen overhauling the promising Hamish at Newbury and could kick on again as a 4yo now. He’ll need to improve again as he faces tougher company now but there’s good reason to think he will.
The other horse I think is interesting here is GHOSTWATCH for Charlie Appleby. He missed all of last season so this is no easy task but he should be ready to go and did look a big improver when last seen winning a Listed race at Ascot. He is a big price so I think he’s worth a saver. Dangers include First In Line for Gosden and Faylaq for Haggas.
Haydock 2.05 Pinnacle Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ Group 3) (1m31/2f)
Fairly small field for Group 3 prize money but that should suit our selection MANUELA DE VEGA. She stays well and has been racing at the top level. In a Group 1 in Munich last time out and at the Curragh for the Irish Oaks earlier in the season. This is a much easier assignment and she will take all the beating.
Fanny Logan is the favourite at the time of writing, she is the main danger but I am not sure she is at her best up in trip above 1 mile 2 furlongs.
Newmarket 2.25 Barrow Handicap Stakes (1m2f)
It should be a promising season for our selection DAVYDENKO who has won 4 of his last 5 races and is on a hat-trick in handicaps. He was last seen winning at Doncaster and prior to that at Newmarket and he handled the track well. He should have plenty more to come this season and will surely be in Group company before long.
The main danger looks to be Good Birthday for Andrew Balding. He’s been gelded now and could prove a different proposition. He ran a cracker on final start in the Cambridgeshire so has already developed into a smart performer and might make an even better 4yo.
Haydock 2.40 Brigadier Gerard Stakes (Group 3) (1m2f)
I’m looking forward to seeing Kingman colt SANGARIUS again for Sir Michael Stoute. He ran out an impressive winner on final start in the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot and falls into the ‘could be anything’ category. He was due to make his return at Newmarket on Friday but has been switched to this race now. Elarqam lines up and looks a serious danger but I think the selection can improve past him.
It’s between the market principals but I’ll be interested to see how Telecaster runs with a view to the future. He’s a colt I really liked last year and I think he can do better going forward. Might be worth a saver at around 7/1 but I’m just playing the selection straight out.
Newmarket 3.00 Pretty Polly Fillies’ Stakes (Listed) (1m2f)
This looks an exciting renewal but the one with potential and at a nice price TREFOIL stands out. She overcame greenness to assert in good style close home over a mile here on debut and that form looks strong. She had Oriental Mystique back in fourth and she won really well next start and also English King was back in seventh and we all know how good he has looked since. This longer trip looks ideal and I think she’s going to run a huge race.
Tiempo Vuela is the favourite and she was a smart winner on debut at Newcastle and should improve. Looks the one to beat but in terms of value our selection is a knocking each way punt.
Haydock 3.15 Spring Trophy Stakes (Listed)
Strong field for the Spring Trophy with plenty of these competing at a much higher level. In a competitive race we will side with SAFE VOYAGE who is proven at Group 1 level and this should be more than winnable if running up to his form at Ascot and Lonchamp last season.
Godolphin should have a good chance at following him how with Space Blue and D’Bai, on paper I would side with D’bai but James Doyle has chosen Space Blues so he is most likely to give our selection the most to think about.
Newmarket 3.35 1000 Guineas (Group 1) (1m)
ITV Racing Win Treble
Given there are 7 races live again on ITV Racing on Sunday we have placed a Win Treble on our three most confident selections on the day.
