Newbury 1.50 It’s Not Rocket Science with MansionBet Handicap Stakes (1m2f)
Small field for this ultra competitive handicap, all are open to plenty of improvement with gelding operations and stepping up in trip. Stepping up in trip is the angle we have taken in this race, it will suit some over the others. MAN OF THE NIGHT‘s pedigree looks well suited to the step up in trip especially on the dam’s side. They all hold similar form and I would expect Richard Hannon’s charge to find the most at today’s trip with Ryan Moore onboard.
Gold Souk is the other I think will do better at this trip and with his trainer firing in plenty of winners already he will give our selection the most to think about.
Sandown 2.05 The Sutton Handicap Stakes (7f)
I was really impressed with ASCENSION following a tame debut run at Newbury. He went on to record back-to-back wins at Salisbury and Newcastle over 6f before breaking slowly and never being put in the race on final start at Newmarket. He is likely to have strengthened up since then and I think he can resume his progress now. Definitely a nice prospect going forward and rates as the most likely winner here for me if fit and ready to go!
Impressor was back on track when third in the Group 3 Horris Hill behind Kenzai Warrior when last seen and has had a wind op since so could be a danger. Surf Dancer flopped in that race but is another who can do better in time so I’ll be keeping my eye on him too. This should throw up plenty of future winners.
Newbury 2.25 MansionBet’s Royal Ascot Special Maggie Dickson Fillies’ Stakes (Listed Race) (7f)
Initially I thought it was a tough call between Preening and MISS CELESTIAL but with the former now a non runner it makes my decision easier. She was only beaten a short distance behind Liberty Beach on her comeback run (that horse won on return) and should strip fitter for that. The usual headgear is back on and she should run a big race for Sir Mark Prescott who has had 1 win and 2 places from his 4 turf runners so far.
Mubtasimah would have improved plenty and could run a big race on her return to the track. She hasn’t been seen for 234 days but has won fresh before so looks the main threat to the selection. Farzeen needs to learn to settle but would be a danger to all if doing so.
Sandown 2.40 The Scurry Stakes (Listed Race) (5f)
There was good word around for LAZULI ahead of his return and it was a run full of promise. He finished second to Smokey Bear (who was our selection on the day) and that horse looks fairly smart so it’s form I think will work out. He can step forward again with that under his belt. Had King Ragnar behind in third who I like too. This is competitive and he probably has Sunday Sovereign to beat but that colt did blow out in the Norfolk and hasn’t been seen for 359 days now trained by Roger Varian. Could be more to come so is respected but at the same time happy to oppose at the odds.
Al Raya is also worth a mention as she was clearly on an upward curve when last seen showing a good attitude to win a Group 3 at Chantilly. May need the run though. Market will be informative.
Newbury 3.00 Watch and Bet with MansionBet at Newbury EBF Abingdon Fillies’ Stakes (1m2f)
Sticking with another horse ridden by Ryan Moore in this race, CABALETTA. She is hard to pass up on with her debut win at Yarmouth franked by Frankly Darling winning nicely last time out and her pedigree strongly suggests she will be better over further so this looks a solid chance if she is ready to roll, which you would think she would as Roger Varian has had 8 winners and 11 placed runner since the restart.
There are a few that could chase her home but you would have to be looking for more from well bred fillies Franconia and Oriental Mystique but they would have to improve a fair bit to beat our selection.
Sandown 3.15 The Claygate Handicap Stakes (1m)
Solid Stone is likely to be popular here for Stoute and Buick but he’s a horse I’m happy to take on at a short price. THE GILL BROTHERS looks good value at 5/1. He was a progressive horse last season winning at Kempton and Chelmsford before finishing strongly back up to a mile and then going down narrowly at the same trip in December. He clearly has a big engine and if they go a good clip here I think he’ll run them all down.
Exec Chef is often fancied but usually disappoints. It’s been thirteen runs since his last win in 2018 and he wasn’t disgraced on return. Happy to let him win though as he is short enough at 5/1 given how much he disappoints. Hard to recommend much else I think those mentioned are the one’s to focus on.
Newbury 3.35 MansionBet’s Beaten By a Head Diomed Stakes (Group 3) (1m)
On first glance this doesn’t look an easy Group 3 to call with plenty of these running in better races unsuccessfully so it is hard to gauge their best levels. KING OF COMEDY is not usually that reliable at the top level but he has talent to be much better than Group 3 level on his day. His run in the St James’s Palace would be enough to win this and that fact he goes well fresh for an in-form John Gosden he is worth siding with. One of our more confident bets of the day at 2/1!
Zaaki also goes well fresh and is solid at Group 3 level but not sure he is better than the selection at his best so is passed over.
Curragh 7.15 Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas (Group 1) (1m)
Standard bearer ALBIGNA can strike here for Jessica Harrington! She already sets a high benchmark and with the promise of more to come I think she’ll prove too strong. She is a big filly who I’ve always liked and it would be good to see her kick on again this season and hit the very top. She was given too much to do at the Breeders’ Cup when last seen and is better judged on her Group 1 win in France prior to that.
The biggest danger looks to be Peaceful for Aidan O’Brien. She ran well in a Listed race last time and can progress. All about the favourite for me though!
ITV Racing Win Trixie
Given there are 7 races live on ITV Racing on Saturday we have placed a Win Trixie on our three most confident selections of the day (includes our Irish 1000 Guineas selection which isn’t on ITV).
ITV Racing Each Way Double
Here you can find our Each Way Double for the races live on ITV on Saturday. These are two horses we fancy strongly at decent prices to make a big double.
