Royal Ascot 1.15 Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap (5f)
Art Power looked pretty smart storming clear to win at York as a 2yo. He returned with an equally as impressive win at Newcastle on return. He is very promising but a mark of 97 is no given and at the prices I think it’s worth trying to get him beat as there’s plenty of value on offer. Night Of Thunder filly KEEP BUSY is the one I like. She has some solid form in the book and ran well chasing home the exciting Lazuli in a Listed contest at Sandown last week. I think that race will work out well in time and it puts her right in the mix here. 10/1 is too good to pass up!
CLASSY MOON is also worth including each way. He looked hugely promising winning on debut and while he has failed to fire since he was highly tried in group races and has clearly been kept fresh with this race in mind. He’s been gelded in the meantime and a mark of 97 may well underestimate him. He is proven with a bit of cut in the ground and should out-run his odds. If he doesn’t fire today he is still one I’ll want to keep an eye on going forward as he has scope to do better. Very interesting at around 28/1.
Royal Ascot 1.50 Albany Stakes (Fillies’ Group 3) (6f)
A race which we don’t have much to go on as many have only recently made their debuts. I have decided to have two in this at double figure prices as plenty have gone in at bigger odds over the years. My first pick is Karl Burke’s DANDELLA who was very fast on debut and the 2 length win suggests this 6 furlong trip should be spot on. He is drawn near Follow Suit who should make it a ferocious pace.
My other pick goes against the trend of winning last time out but MAHALE caught the eye flying home late against some very good sorts who all line up in a better race later in the week (Queen Mary). The race has already produced winners and both picks have had a longer break than some with 2 weeks plus off.
I watched the Wesley Ward filly Flying Aletha bolt up on debut in America and would really be keen on her if the ground was quick but I am not sure the ground will suit her. Still one to watch though!
Royal Ascot 2.25 Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) (5f)

Royal Ascot 3.00 Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2) (1m4f)
With question marks over plenty of these it is a tough race to call, however I am siding with ELARQAM to step up in trip and bring about a bit more improvement. His comeback run against Lord North got a huge boost and he should have come on a fair bit since then. He is by Frankel so 1m4f should be fine and he has a favourites chance.
Most would think Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck would be our main danger but he ran badly on good to soft here last year. Connections said it was the ground and he hasn’t ran on slow ground since. The main danger for us is last years winner Defoe who needed a run last year and should be much fitter for his run at Newmarket.
Royal Ascot 3.35 Commonwealth Cup (Group 1) (6f)
Pierre Lapin is a horse I like a lot and he has looked exciting winning both starts to date. Roger Varian was on fire on Day 3 with a treble and he will undoubtedly be popular in the market. He does lack experience though and I worry this will come too soon in his career so at a likely short price I’m going to oppose. LOPE Y FERNANDEZ is always a horse I’ve thought is at his best over 6f so I think it’s all the more encouraging that he ran so well in the Irish Guineas when third to Siskin. He will come on for that given it was his first run of the season and he has to have a major chance. I was lucky enough to see him in the flesh as a 2yo at Ballydoyle and I think Aidan has always had this race in mind for him in the long-term.
ROYAL CRUSADER makes appeal at a price. I remember Charlie Appleby saying he had worked all over Pinatubo at home. He hasn’t quite lived up to that on the track (as of yet) but has shaped promisingly and he may well do better from 2 to 3. Definitely one to keep in mind and at around 14/1 I’ve had a saver on him.
Royal Ascot 3.35
Lope Y Fernandez 5/1 each way
Royal Crusader 14/1 each way saver
Royal Ascot 4.10 Queen’s Vase (Group 2) (1m6f)
A wide open Queen’s Vase and any of 4/5 of these could win this but we are going with BERKSHIRE ROCCO who we tipped on his last run when beaten by English King in the Derby Trial. The winner that day is 2nd favourite for the Derby so it shows how good that run is. He is by Sir Percy so the step-up in trip should suit and I expect him to go close.
Born With Pride ran a cracker on debut and it’s worked out well but her comeback run was so poor so she has a bit to prove now. She has more to come obviously but I fancy the selection to have too much at this stage. Santiago for Aidan O’Brien could improve a lot at this trip and is one to watch if the money comes.
Royal Ascot 4.40 Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap) (1m4f)
An extremely tricky handicap to close out the card on Day 4. Hugh Taylor has tipped Durston and he has been really well punted in the market now. Definitely got a chance back from 10 months having been gelded with Jim Crowley on but too short at 9/2 now. Happy to take him on! Taken three against the field (one at a monster price) and the first is WEST END CHARMER for Mark Johnston. This colt by Nathaniel came back from over a year off the track to win at Newmarket, making all the running, and looks potentially well treated under a penalty. He can improve again and with his trainer doing so well in this race over the years he is a must to include.
My second play in the race and arguably my most confident selection is MEDAL WINNER for Archie Watson. This likeable grey by Olympic Glory won really smartly at Newcastle on return and I think he looks an exciting horse in the making. He’ll stay this trip and won’t mind the ground and looks sure to play a big part in the finish. He has a fair bit of pace drawn near him so should get carried into the race before hopefully staying on strongest under Oisin Murphy.
At a silly price I’ve also had to include GETCHAGETCHAGETCHA for Clive Cox. He started out as a sprinter (won over 5f here) but gradually stepped up in trip and has done well, winning a good race at Leicester over this trip and again going in at Wolverhampton in December. He hasn’t been seen for 167 days but could still have more to come and at 33/1 is worth a few quid each way.
Royal Ascot 4.40
West End Charmer 13/2 each way
Medal Winner 9/1 each way
Getchagetchagetcha 33/1 each way
