Goodwood 1.10 Tdn Australia Handicap (Class 3) 1m3f

Runaway winner at Newmarket last month AL QAQAA looks a great prospect over this trip. He won that day by 8 lengths and is likely to find plenty more than his mark of 88. William Haggas is in great form and his colt should take all the beating if showing natural improvement.

Celestran drops in grade and may have bumped into a few so could emerge as the main danger. Mafia Power is the closest in the betting and did impress at Haydock last time but faces better horses here and has to prove himself over this trip.

Goodwood 1.45 Saint Clair Oak Tree Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ Group 3) 7f

One Master is proving all the rage here for William Haggas and Tom Marquand but she isn’t one for maximum faith at a short price having been turned over at odds of 11/4, 13/8, 3/1 and 10/3 in her career. She can often find one or two too good and while this represents a decent opportunity for her to return to winning ways I have my reservations on this occasion.

It’s hard to pinpoint the winner but I’ve taken a chance on INVITATIONAL for Roger Varian. This filly by Poet’s Voice is lightly raced for her age and rounded off last season with back-to-back wins at Fontainebleau and Wolverhampton. She tried to make all on return in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes before weakening late. That was probably a case of not quite seeing out the mile and needing the run so back to an easy 7f here she could outrun her price-tag. We’ve already seen front runners to good effect here so I think she’ll go off shorter than the 18/1 currently on offer.

Goodwood 2.15 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3) 1m

It could be a very good day for Sheikh Hamdan with plenty fo strong fancies and KHALOOSY looks another class horse. He was so impressive taking the Britannia at Royal Ascot and if in the same form on this faster surface will take all the beating as his odds suggest.

Tilsit doesn’t have the form of some of these but could be anything after that last win and I would keep an eye on any big moves for it. My Oberon justified a big late plunge at York last time and like the selection is open to further progress. Needs plenty more to mount a challenge to the fav though.

Goodwood 3.15 King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2) 5f

This is all about one horse, BATTAASH. He was at his best at Royal Ascot and loves it here at Goodwood winning the last 3 renewals of this race. If anywhere near his Ascot form he will win this fairly comfortably. He is a 1/3 shot at the time of writing so hardly a bet but very much one to enjoy.

LIBERTY BEACH chased him home in 3rd at Ascot and I expect her to be in the places again here. Her run next time out behind A’Ali has been franked and the time of that race looks very good. Best thing to do in this is bet without the favourite or back her to place.

Goodwood 3.45 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Glorious Stakes (Group 3) 1m4f

A trippy race with the front four quite hard to split. Initially I quite liked Pablo Escobarr and while he’s entitled to be bang there I just have that feeling he’ll find one too good so for win purposes I am going to oppose. Communique heads the market and also has a solid chance but 2/1 is skinny in a race as competitive as this so again may be worth taking on. DESERT ENCOUNTER is the one I’ve finally come down on. He won this 12 months ago and shaped well when third behind Dame Malliot in the Prince Of Wales’s Tattersalls Stakes last time. He ran a very similar race last year before taking this prize so I think the stars have aligned again.

Alounak is certainly not ruled out either as he ran a cracking race when second to Fanny Logan in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot. Not seen to best effect last time but shouldn’t be discounted here. Le Don De Vie is certainly no backnumber either so you can see how open this race is.

Goodwood 4.20 New Unibet Instant Roulette Nursery (Class 2) 6f

Hard to know how good some of these could be with plenty having only just been allocated handicap marks but I have a suspicion ZAMAANI will be rated nearer 100 in the future. His win at Windsor was comfortable and the run before that he bumped into a horse who went on to win the Woodcote at Epsom in Twaasol. He was beaten under a length that day and that horse is now rated 95.

Julie Johnston for track specialist Mark Johnson looked like she could have won by more last time out and could be well in even under a penalty and is the main danger for sure. Perotto won well over C&D last time and should have more to offer on handicap debut but realistically will need a big step forward to win this.

Zamaani 15/8 NOTEBOOK

Goodwood 4.55 British EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (Class 4) 6f

Not a race to be trying to save your day in with several newcomers lining up. Those with form Sarsaparilla probably sets the standard having bumped into the extremely exciting Fly Miss Helen at Newbury last time. She has done nothing wrong and I do expect that form to work out well in time but I have that feeling she may bump into one again and given she is favourite I’m happy to oppose.

VENTURA DIAMOND didn’t go unbacked on debut when finishing fourth to Miss Jingles. That filly has since given the form some substance  winning a good race here on Wednesday. The selection just dwelt at the start and as a result had to race wide. She kept on at the finish but I got the impression Ben Curtis was keeping her safe for another day and wasn’t overly hard on her close home. She is sure to improve from that and looks a major contender in this field. Enoughisgoodenough is probably the most interesting newcomer being by Dark Angel and costing €440,000. Experience should count for plenty though so the selection is preferred on this occasion.
