Mark Johnston and Ryan Moore team up in the opener on ITV Racing on Friday and ZABEEL CHAMPION should take all the beating. This leggy colt by Poet’s Voice has looked progressive in a handful of starts to date winning twice at Newmarket before improving to post a career best at Goodwood last month. He just looked outpaced before finishing strongly and ultimately just had a bit too much to do. The step up to a mile and a half looks sure to suit and he can get back to winning ways.

Alfaatik is an intriguing contender as he was a 850,000 guineas purchase and did look a bright prospect winning on debut at Chelmsford. We’ve only seen him twice since so he clearly hasn’t been the easiest to train but he’ll have to be ready to go if he is to overhaul the favourite. He may end up needing the run so I’m happy to pass him over. Restorer chased home Palavecino at Chester when last seen and that form entitles him to be the main danger here. At a bigger price it wouldn’t surprise me if KOEMAN showed up well for Mick Channon and Oisin Murphy. I’m having a small saver at 14/1!

Today is hopefully the day for NAYEF ROAD after bumping into the top class Stradivarius at Ascot and Goodwood. He has such solid form in Group 1’s and two miles looks his optimum trip. He finished in front of Irish Derby winner Santiago latest giving it over a stone which is impressive in itself. If he runs like he did at Goodwood he will be tough to beat here.

The danger is the mare Enbihaar who has four wins at Group 2 level but would need to prove it at this trip against a very good horse in Nayef Road. Dashing Willoughby made a winning return at Newmarket and followed up in Group 3 company at Sandown last month so also cannot be ruled out.

York 2.45 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes (Group 2) 6f

Richard Hannon won this contest last year with Threat and he looks to have solid claims in a bid to follow up with the unbeaten MOHAWK KING. This colt showed a smart turn of foot to come from an unpromising position to win at Ascot on debut last month and looks an extremely talented individual. He had Minzaal back in fourth on that occasion and that colt has since looked promising himself winning effortlessly at Salisbury. The latter has clearly improved plenty so will be a big danger but hopefully the selection has too and can confirm those placings. It could be the form to focus on.

This is a fascinating race with so many looking exciting so there are a few dangers. Yazaman has bumped into Tactical and Supremacy so has obvious form claims and can’t be ruled out. Mystery Smiles is 2-2 and is another with more to come. Definitely trackers at the ready!

Once again this race revolves around one great horse, “The Batmobile” (BATTAASH). He broke the course record last year and if the ground continues to dry out it could be in danger again. He really looks straightforward this season winning at Royal Ascot and the King George at Goodwood. Both wins were easy and he will take all the beating again as his price suggests. Jim Crowley did say on Thursday that the ground was a bit sticky but the times weren’t bad at all so hopefully he can create more history.

Art Power has impressed this season winning 3/3 and looks very quick however I think A’Ali who is in flying form as well could be the one for the forecast coming from the back late on. The former will probably try and make a race of it and that could ultimately cost him finishing second so there might be value in that angle.

York 3.45 British Stallion Studs EBF Convivial Maiden Stakes (Class 2) 7f

Hard to be overly confident with lightly raced 2yo’s but NAVAL CROWN is clearly the one to beat here. This colt by Dubawi has shown plenty in two runs to date and has the best form on offer with that third behind the promising Chindit at Ascot last time. The fourth Saint Lawrence has come out and won since and I think that’s form that will work out well going forward. The selection will find this easier and he has obvious claims of getting off the mark.

Tawleed finished second on debut at Goodwood and is sure to progress but I wasn’t as taken by that run as most and I’m surprised to see him as the main market rival to the selection. Broomy Law is the one I’d favour to chase home the favourite. This colt by Gleneagles had to run on from a poor position on debut and looks to have plenty of ability. Rushmore and Dingle both have a fair bit to find to get involved.

This is so competitive so it’s no surprise to see we’ve taken two against the field. Finest Sound is the fav at time of writing and he has a good chance but he can be keen and that seemed to cost him at Newmarket last time and it could be a similar story here. If he settles early then watch his in-running price collapse. Respected but I’m happy to try and oppose.

JOHAN is my first selection in the race. This colt was strong at the finish when winning at Newbury on return and while he could only finish fourth at Ascot last time I think that was a good race with the winner Tsar looking hugely promising and then second Dance Fever and third Evening Sun both looks smart types. He will be finishing strongly under James Doyle and looks a knocking each way bet in an open race. My second play is BRUNCH for Michael Dods. This gelding by Harbour Watch is a progressive individual and he has won three of his last four now. He stayed on in taking fashion to peg back Jumaira Bay over 7f here last time and that rival has since gone one better. He is up 6lb in a much better race but has a good draw and will appreciate going back up to a mile so has to be included. Eastern World, Cold Front and Hartswood are feared most.
