Haydock 1.45 Betfair Superior Mile Stakes (Group 3) 1m
A decent looking Group 3 to kick-off ITV racing on Saturday and we have a favourite of ours running. TOP RANK lost his unbeaten record a York but he was only a length behind in a race where not much went his way and he travelled into the race so well. The softer ground is in his favour as his best run came on the softer side and he should outrun his price.
Khaloosy has to be the danger if bouncing back after disappointing at odds-on at Goodwood and if in the same form as winning the Britannia at Ascot he will be fighting out the finish.
Kempton 2.00 Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Sirenia Stakes (Group 3) 6f
Cloudbridge was all the rage at York last time following his impressive debut win but he races too freely and failed to get home. Connections have reached for a hood now and have come back in trip which should help but for me he has a bit to prove at present so I’m not willing to get involved in the gamble. MIGHTY GURKHA is the one I fancy to go close. He hasn’t done much wrong and ran a big race chasing home Method at Newbury. He reared at the start when sixth in Prix de Cabourg at Deauville last time and looks to have a big chance of bouncing back here and at a decent price too.
Mystery Smiles is the obvious danger. He heads the market having won two of his three starts and could have lots more to offer. At a bigger price Twaasol may run better than his odds suggest but he ran below par behind the impressive Chindit at Ascot so also has a bit to prove at present. I’m not ruling him out though so keep an eye on him.
Haydock 2.15 Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Handicap 1m6f
Very small field for this year’s renewal but it still looks competitive. FAVORITE MOON disappointed in the Melrose at York last time but returns to Haydock where he was seen putting up his best performance so far when beating Subjectivist who has gone on to win a Group 3 since. It was soft ground that day and he should have the same conditions again today. I would be surprised if he can’t win off a mark of just 87.
The two at the top of the weights look the dangers, Al Dabaran and Arthurian Fable but they are giving our selection a lot of weight which will be a tough ask. Hard to see Midrarr or Dancing Harry proving good enough.
Kempton 2.35 Unibet September Stakes (Group 3) 1m4f
There’s not much we can say that you don’t already know about ENABLE but it is still a horse race after all and anything can happen. Everything crossed she can get the job done en route to the Arc. She won this two years ago so it’s proved a good stepping stone. Not much in opposition but Prince Of Arran will probably chase her home. He is eyeing up another shot at the Melbourne Cup.
Hard to find any sort of angle into this from a betting perspective so I’m happy to sit back and relax and watch the wonder mare strut her stuff!
Haydock 2.50 Betfair Exchange Old Borough Cup Handicap 1m6f
From a small field in the last race at Haydock we have a big field for the Old Borough Cup and I am going with one at a decent each-way price. RAJINSKY has been a solid handicapper this season placing in 4 of his last 5 runs and is nudged up 2lb for his last run. He looks like he will have conditions in his favour after winning on very soft ground previously and 10/1 looks a fair price at the time of writing.
Obviously it is a wide open race and dangers are a plenty. Australis who was second in the Northumberland Plate could bound back after a poor run last time as he is still relatively unexposed in comparison to quite a few. Glencadam Glory is entitled to go well too so has to be feared.
Ascot 3.05 Lavazza Stakes (Heritage Handicap) 1m4f
Both our Notebooks won on Friday LANDING A 24/1 DOUBLE in the process. Hopefully we can add some more winners on Saturday and MY FRANKEL catches the eye here. He is by Frankel (obviously) and has been thoroughly progressive so far winning both starts since his debut. He looked to have plenty in reserve when winning at Kempton last time under a penalty and should relish this step up to 1m4f with an opening mark of just 96 looking to underestimate him. Cieren Fallon has been booked for the ride too and I’m a big fan. Grand Bazaar and Al Qaqaa should put good pace to the race which will help him finish best and be seen to best effect.
Shandoz is a big danger and is one I have in my notes to keep on side so is feared. Kipps has the headgear back on which should help him focus so could also go well. It’s competitive but 11/2 about the selection just looks too generous to pass up.
Haydock 3.25 Betfair Sprint Cup Stakes (Group 1) 6f
Today’s feature race on ITV is the Sprint Cup at Haydock and it looks a good renewal with HELLO YOUMZAIN going for back-to-back wins. He has been in top form at Group 1 level beating the favourite for this race at the time of writing Dream Of Dreams at Ascot and was last seen finishing under a length behind the top class Space Blues in Deauville. He thrives on soft ground and conditions look identical to his win last year. I would be disappointed if he doesn’t go close.
Art Power would be competitive if bouncing back but was pretty poor in the Nunthorpe two weeks ago. The favourite Dream Of Dreams and Glen Shiel are in top form but they seem to be better on faster ground. So the main dangers in my opinion are Golden Horde and Lope Y Fernandez.
Ascot 3.40 Tweenhills Follow The Foals Handicap 6f
This is massively competitive but I have to stick with JONAH JONES for Ed Walker. He won this race last year with Swindler and looks to have another promising type on his hands. This horse hasn’t had much luck and definitely has it in him to win a big pot. He was slowly into stride at York and did all his best work late, nearest finish. I have no doubt he is well handicapped off a mark of 89 so he has to be included.
May Sonic heads the betting unsurprisingly having won his last two. He is 9lb higher though and while he could have more to offer at this trip he is opposable for me being so short in a race with as much depth as this. Kimifive hasn’t been running badly and has the form to get involved. Spanish City has also had excuses lately so could come into the reckoning.
Haydock 4.00 Betfair Each Way Edge Be Friendly Handicap 5f
Competitive end to the live action at Haydock and it is a race that has favoured the younger horses with 3 and 4 year olds winning the last 6 renewals. I am siding with Marco Botti’s 3 year old WONDERWORK who has stepped forward again since joining his new yard with a win and a place in his last two runs. Both races have had the form franked and he would go well with his mark the same as his third at York.
Militia is on a decent win streak however I think he may have just been well placed into winnable races and the main dangers in these conditions could be the bottom weight Wrenthorpe who will have a good go from the front. Aplomb has been well supported but does need to bounce back.
Ascot 4.15 Porsche Handicap 7f
Another tricky handicap to close and initially I had taken two against the field but with Raising Sand now a non runner we rely solely on BLUE MIST. He put that luckless run behind him to gain compensation last time and a 6lb rise actually looks pretty fair to me so he should run a big race. I think he’ll need it to drop right though given how competitive it is.
Plenty of dangers probably headed by Via Serendipity who was gambled like defeat was out the question last time and may have it in him to go close even under a 7lb rise. The drop back in trip certainly isn’t an issue for me so he is feared. Society Lion rather disappointed last time but could be worth another chance.
ITV Racing Win Trixie
Given there are 10 races live on ITV Racing on Saturday we have placed a Win Trixie on our three most confident selections of the day.
ITV Racing Each Way Double
