Doncaster 1.30 Betfair Wentworth Stakes (Listed Race) 6f

The opener on ITV racing features a couple of our favourite horses in DAKOTA GOLD and Brando. Dakota Gold has had an amazing season with 3 wins and 2 places in his last 5 runs and he has clocked up some really impressive time figures. I gave him the edge over Brando as he beat him at York under similar conditions and will go very close again today.

Brando is the main danger after his impressive 2nd in the Champion Sprint behind Glen Shiel but I feel the race just set up for him that day and he may need a fair bit to drop his way to beat the selection.

Wincanton 1.50 Richard Barber Memorial Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 2m51/2f

I’m looking forward to seeing CILL ANNA here for Paul Nicholls. This mare looked hugely promising last season bringing up the hat-trick over hurdles at Doncaster on final start. She showed a great attitude the last day and has scope to go on improving yet. This is competitive but at the same time looks a good starting point and I think she is sure to go close under Cobden.

Sunrise Ruby is fit and won well at Kempton last month but she’ll find this tougher and I’m not sure she should be as short as she is in the market. A stablemate to the selection Eglantine Du Seuil may emerge as the main danger under 5lb claimer Bryan Carver. She looks on a fair mark on first start for this yard so should run well. It’s Probably Me also needs consideration.

Doncaster 2.05 Betfair Exchange British EBF Gillies Fillies’ Stakes (Listed Race) 1m2f

Wide open race where not many can be safely ruled out but I was impressed by FREYJA’s win at Newmarket in similar conditions last time and I think she is still on an upward curve. She has won her last two with the form and times looking rock solid. If she runs to the level of her last run she will be right in the mix again and is priced accordingly.

Ice Sprite is one I think could have the most improvement to come and looks a danger at a nice price so might be worth a saver. Trefoil has a bit to prove but she wasn’t disgraced in stronger company last time so could figure.

Wincanton 2.25 “Rising Stars” Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) 2m4f

A disappointing turnout for this with just the 3 runners. It only attracted 5 last year with Reserve Tank justifying favouritism beating If You Say Run comfortably in the end. Grand Sancy is favourite this time round. He made a perfect return over fences winning by 13 lengths at Chepstow and remains open to improvement. The yard have a good record in this but he can be too keen for his own good and I think he might be opposable at a short price. GA LAW is the one I want to side with for Jamie Snowden. This French recruit made a taking impression switched to fences winning easily at Fontwell before improving to win at Exeter last time. This is tougher again but he looks a horse firmly on the upgrade.

Hurricane Harvey is certainly no back number and himself is open to improvement but he will need more to trouble the front pair.

Aintree 2.40 williamhill.com Best Odds Guaranteed Hurdle (Class 2) 2m4f

Small field again for this race and last years winning connections have Call Me Lord in this and he does have a fair chance. That said I think SUMMERVILLE BOY is the best in this race and should go well first time out. He is a class horse who took the 2018 Supreme and was last seen running well in the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Festival. Seemingly versatile distance-wise he looks the one to beat at a decent price.

Call Me Lord and Thomas Darby will go well in what should be a good race but I fancy Summerville Boy to edge them out over this trip. Dan Skelton is also in good form so Ch’tibello can’t be entirely ruled out either.

Wincanton 3.00 Unibet Elite Hurdle (Grade 2) 1m71/2f

Sceau Royal won this back in 2016 and it was great to see him back to somewhere near his best winning the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las on return 3 weeks ago. He is entitled to the upmost respect here but at 11/10 at the time of writing he has to be taken on.

I’ve always been a big fan of SOLO and I’ll be hoping he can make a winning return here. He looked hugely exciting heading into the Triumph and while he could only finish down the field that sort of test just might have come too soon and given time since and having undergone a gelding operation he could get back on the up now. I’m sure he has a very bright future so hopefully he can take this before going on to better things in time.

Doncaster 3.15 Betfair November Handicap (Class 2) 1m4f

Another really competitive race so siding with one I think can improve a fair bit and that is SAM COOKE. He lost by a nose at Ascot and has only been raised 3lb for that run. He has only ran 6 times so you would think he could still have a fair bit to come. He is fresher than most of these after a break with a draw that looks like it will setup well for him. If he improves again he will be bang there.

The main danger Euchen Glen has been revitalised this year and is one to take seriously off a career high mark. Surrey Pride is talented and has Ray Dawson booked so should run a big race too.

Wincanton 3.35 Badger Beers Silver Trophy Handicap Chase (Listed Race) 3m1f

Paul Nicholls is unleashing plenty of talent today and he takes the wraps off another one potentially in DANNY WHIZZBANG. This horse won a Grade 2 novice chase on his seasonal return last year and should be capable of making his mark off his current rating. I know he thinks a lot of this horse and while this is fiercely competitive the yard do particularly well in this and won it last year with Give Me A Copper.

Nicholls also saddles Present Man and My Way and neither should be ignored. The latter is probably the one I fear most as he dusted the cobwebs off with a good win over hurdles last month so should be spot on now. Just A Sting is plenty talented and should also be thereabouts.
