Newbury 12.15 Watch Racing Free Online At Ladbrokes ‘National Hunt’ Maiden Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 3) 2m1/2f
This race has been the stepping stone for many very good horses including Lostintranslation and Buveur D’Air and Nicky Henderson has one for the same connections in FLINTEUR SACRE. There was a lot of hype around his debut as he is the brother of superstar Sprinter Sacre. He was keen that day and finished second but showed his class when winning at Kempton and looks an exciting prospect in the making. He should be taking this race if ready to roll this season.
My Drogo is the main danger after running really well to finish second in a bumper at Cheltenham and has fitness on his side. Sir Sholokhov is also interesting and is fairly prominent in the betting.
Newbury 12.45 Ladbrokes Daily Odds Boosts Chase (Novices’ Limited Handicap) (For The Fulke Walwyn Trophy) (GBB Race) (Class 3) 2m1/2f
This is competitive and I know ERITAGE was fortunate to win at Ludlow but even still that was an improved effort on chase debut and I think there could be a fair bit more to come. He was keeping on when Goa Lil departed at the last and was handed an 8 and a half length win under Harry Cobden. He jumped well and should strip a lot fitter from the run. He was keen in the early stages too so I do think it can be marked up to some extent.
Editeur Du Gite chased home Sully D’Oc Aa at Ascot on return but the form has already been given a knock with Smarty Wild only finishing fourth at Wetherby on Wednesday and the fourth Republican being turned over as favourite. Anemoi may emerge as the danger bidding for a hat-trick.
Newbury 1.15 Play Ladbrokes 5-A-Side On Football Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 3) 2m41/2f
A race Nicky Henderson has done well in previously and he looks to have another decent chance with BOTHWELL BRIDGE. His bumper form worked out well and he won impressively on hurdling debut. He should improve plenty for that run and will take a lot of beating and hopefully make it 2/2 over hurdles.
Paul Nicholls looks to have the main danger in here with Bravemansgame after he won nicely at his second attempt over hurdles and is interesting up in trip. Real Stone sprung a 50/1 upset at Aintree but this looks between the front pair.
Newbury 1.50 Ladbrokes Committed To Safer Gambling Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (Registered As The Berkshire) (GBB Race) (Class 1) 2m4f
Nicky Henderson won this last year with Champ so usually targets a good one at it and he saddles CARIBEAN BOY this year. This French import shaped well back from 21 months off the track in January behind The Big Bite at Doncaster and built on that to thrash that rival at Haydock next time. He jumped really well and stayed on strongly and there was a lot to like about that performance. The second himself returned with a win at Aintree and looked promising so the form is solid. He can continue to progress and while Fiddlerontheroof is a useful type himself I think this horse can get into a nice rhythm and tap him for toe as the latter looks more of a stayer now.
Getaway Trump left behind a shocking run at Cheltenham to win at Fakenham last time but needs much more off the back of that bare form and is bumping into a couple of decent sorts.
Newbury 2.25 Get Your Ladbrokes 1 Free Bet Today Handicap Chase (GBB Race) (Class 2) 2m4f
This looks as competitive as ever and Oldgrangewood is favourite at the time of writing to win it for the third time. He will go well as he always does especially now he’s had a run but this is the highest mark he has run off in the race and it could be a fair bit tougher. I like SULLY D’OC AA who seemingly improved for the wind operation winning at Ascot. He is only rated 135 now and could have plenty more to come compared to his rivals. I do think that form needs improving on as it hasn’t worked out amazingly but he did it easily so there should be more in the tank.
As well as Oldgrandgewood, Clondaw Castle who finished in front of him at Aintree on reappearance could also prove a danger to the selection. Cepage is a useful horse but he might need this first run for 262 days. Probably needs it softer too.
Newbury 3.00 Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle (Grade 2) (Class 1) 3m
Paisley Park returns to defend his crown for Emma Lavelle. This horse has dominated this division in recent years but his winning streak came to an abrupt end in the World Hurdle when last seen. There were excuses though and if he is back to anywhere near his best he is obviously the one they have to beat. I do think that’s a big ‘if’ though and at the prices I’m going to take him on. Mcfabulous is the obvious one off the back of an impressive win in the Persian War at Chepstow. He travelled like a beast that day and looks sure to run well but this longer trip does ask a couple of questions and I think I’m going to take a chance on THYME HILL. I’ve always thought a lot of this horse and he lost little in defeat when fourth to Monkfish in the Albert Bartlett and he could spring a bit of a surprise here. He has won fresh before and could have an exciting season ahead.
Summerville Boy was back on track winning at Aintree on return and could have a big say. He can be inconsistent though so you’ll need to catch him right. Stayers Hurdle winner Lisnagar Oscar could only finish fourth on return but will be fitter now and also comes into the reckoning at an each way price. Great race!
Newbury 3.35 Play Ladbrokes 1-2-Free On Football Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 3m
This looks like a competitive handicap but there could be one that is off a very generous mark and that is HILL SIXTEEN. He won his first race of the season over fences by 48 lengths and gets to run over hurdles off a mark of 10lb less. That is if he isn’t better than his new chase mark, so if he is in the same form he will take a lot of beating on his second outing for Nigel Twiston-Davies.
The danger in his current mood could be Dell’ Arca who might be 11 but looks as good as ever in handicaps reeling off two in-a-row and has talented amateur Fergus Gillard on again to claim 5lb. I expected more from Neville’s Cross last time but if he bounces back he could also get involved.
