THE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS ON THE AW AT SOUTHWELL ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON!
Southwell 4.50 Owhatanight (5/4)
Night Of Thunder gelding who showed a good attitude to prevail over 7f at Wolverhampton last month; did too much early next start but back to form over this trip last time running on well; hard to oppose.
He has to prove himself on fibresand but if he takes to the surface then OWHATANIGHT is the one they all have to beat. He sets a clear standard on what he’s achieved so far and with the promise of more to come he can get himself back in the winners enclosure. This sort of test should suit and I think he’ll be staying on best when the others have cried enough. Archimedes has been running consistently and given how weak this is he should have a say. It’s no surprise to see him second favourite in the betting. Poppy Jag is also considered stepping back up in trip but needs to do better as she is on a 21-run losing sequence at present. Hard to recommend any of the others in a race lacking depth.

Southwell 1.50 Straitouttacompton (2/1)
Tough sort who is a 3-time C&D winner and was back to his best winning over track and trip at the start of the month, pushed out; up 6lb but had a bit to spare latest and looks the one they all have to beat.
I think the betting has this spot on as I have it between STRAITOUTTACOMPTON and Native Silver. It’s the former I readily prefer as he impressed scoring over C&D last time and given he looked to do that with a bit to spare he can follow up under a 6lb rise. He has won off a mark of 70 in the past so 73 should be within reach especially under these conditions. Native Silver has also won over track and trip and ran well when second to Star Of St James last month but he did fail to back that up last time and has a few questions to answer now. Maykir also has a bad run to overcome having finished 7 of 8 last time but actually wasn’t beaten all that far.
Daily Double
The Daily Double consists of both the NAP and NB and is a great way of covering our two best bets of the day to maximise profit. They both run on the AW at Southwell on Sunday afternoon.
