THE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS ON THE AW AT NEWCASTLE ON THURSDAY NIGHT!
Newcastle 7.30 Broctune Red (9/4)
Good looking sort who comes here chasing a C&D hat-trick after impressing again last month, showing a good attitude to prevail; tactically versatile and looks well placed to go in again; hard to oppose in this grade.
Things might get tougher after today but BROCTUNE RED looks the most likely winner again as he bids to make it 3 in a row. He has raced over C&D 6 times winning 3 of them and finishing 522 on the other three starts. He clearly loves it here and even up 5lb is hard to get away from. He is tactically versatile so should still be able to pick them up even if they don’t go much of a clip. No real pace angle in here but it wouldn’t surprise me if a couple did push forward. He’ll be held onto and look to pick them off one by one. With usual luck I think he’ll be finishing best of all. Antagonize went down narrowly to the selection last time and even with a 2lb swing it’s a big ask to reverse that I think.

Southwell 3.35 Smokey (10/3)
Outstrip filly who has won 2 of her last 3 and lots to like about her C&D win 2 weeks ago, beating a good horse in Passional with the field well strung out; up 4lb so won’t be easy but fancy her to prevail again.
A 4lb rise makes life tougher for SMOKEY and jockey Rhys Clutterbuck has also dropped from a 7lb to a 5lb claimer so she is effectively 6lb worse off. In some ways that isn’t a negative though as it shows he is progressing well and is improving all the time given the fact he is riding winners on a consistent basis. The filly is also getting better judged by that latest performance as it was a career best on the figures. This is competitive and I do expect her to have to fight for it but I think she’s the most likely winner. Qaaraat is the one being backed but he was behind the selection last month and while he is a capable sort I’m struggling to see him reversing that. Scale Force might emerge as the danger.
