Kempton (AW) 1.45 Ladbrokes Magnolia Stakes (Listed Race) Class 1 1m2f
Just the five going to post for the Magnolia Stakes and GLOBAL GIANT looks the one to beat. He has been around the world over the winter taking in big races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. He ran well in the Bahrain Trophy to finish second and just didn’t seem to run his race in the multi-million pound Saudi Cup. This race is a much easier assignment back on home soil. He started off last season with a win on the all-weather and this looks like a great opportunity to get an early win on the board.
Stormy Antarctic looks the danger on paper but he is hard to catch right and 8 years olds don’t do that well in this race. He has had a wind-op but it would have to make a big difference to beat the selection. Sky Defender could run a big race in this small field but the selection will be hard to beat.
Doncaster 2.00 Unibet Doncaster Mile Stakes (Listed Race) Class 1 1m
This is hugely competitive but I am quite bullish on one in here in JUAN ELCANO. 7/1 looks fantastic value about this son of Frankel. He was beaten just 4 lengths in the Guineas behind Kameko and while he was disappointing on final start behind Pyledriver in the Great Voltigeur there’s good reason to believe he’ll take a step forward this season. This is the first time he is stepping back to a mile since arguably that career best and if things fall right he could go close. It will be interesting to see if they hold on to him or send him forward. I think I’d prefer to see him race prominently as we know he stays further and he could get settled on the speed.
Montatham is fav here for Haggas and given his record fresh it’s no real surprise. He looks the biggest danger. Bounce The Blues is a useful filly who looks capable of better so she shouldn’t be far away either. Top Rank is a horse I like a lot but he has a 5lb penalty and might want a bit more cut in the ground.
Kempton (AW) 2.15 Ladbrokes Rosebery Handicap (London Middle Distance Series Qualifier) Class 2 1m3f
This looks like a fairly competitive handicap with the top weight Al Zaraqaan looking a fairly smart horse winning all 3 races since being stepped up in trip. He is up 5lb for that and I think there could be better value in the race with MASTER THE STARS. He ran really well on his comeback run at Kempton to finish third behind Assimilation. The second place horse Lucky’s Dream has come out since and ran a big race at this level to boost the form and if he comes on for the run he should be in the mix.
The favourite may be solid but with the selection 3-4 times the price and getting a fair bit of weight I am happy to take the bigger odds. Dark Pine is the one who could make up the top 3 as he is seeking a hat-trick and has been visually impressive but does have a further 9lb rise.
Doncaster 2.35 Unibet Spring Mile Handicap Class 2 1m
I’ve surprised myself here by having just the one selection in a race as deep as this but ARTISTIC RIFLES ticks plenty of boxes and at 8/1 I’m content to put all my eggs in just the one basket. This son of War Command likes to push forward and force the pace and he looked good doing just that at Redcar in September seeing off Dawaaleeb by a nose. He was given a pipe opener at Newcastle last month and should be spot on for this now. A mark of 86 looks well within reach and he is a strong each way play in an open race.
Acquitted has some eye-catching form as a 2yo when second to Palace Pier and while he was a no show in two starts since he has been gelded now and is interesting off a mark of 91. The market hasn’t missed him though. Other dangers include Mascat who should enjoy it if they go too hard and Arctic Vega who is clearly talented and a 4lb rise doesn’t look too harsh.
Newbury 2.50 BetVictor Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Class 2 2m3f
This looks like a classy handicap with some good sorts in here and ONE TRUE KING who we have been on a few times this season is the selection again. He has the best form on offer and I am surprised he isn’t shorter in the market. You can put a line through his Ascot run over further in soft ground as he will be much better at this trip on ground he relishes. His form behind Tegerek and Lively Citizen at Cheltenham on better ground would see him go very close in this and I think he has a decent chance.
Good Ball is the danger as he is very unexposed and has solid form to his name but with Gowel Road disappointing at the festival last week One True King has better time figures in truly run races which this should be and I think the favourite will have to be a very good horse to beat him. Hudson De Grugy for the Moore’s is an interesting type and could be in the mix at the finish but I am happy to side with experience.
Doncaster 3.10 Unibet Lincoln (Heritage Handicap) Class 2 1m
I landed one of my best ever ante-post bets on this race back in 2016 when Secret Brief stayed on strongly to take victory for Charlie Appleby, William Buick and the boys in blue! In all honesty though it’s a hard race to call and we haven’t had a great deal of luck since. Godolphin were successful in 2019 with Auxerre and have a strong hand again with Eastern World. While I fully respect the head of the market including Haqeeqy I don’t see much value there so have gone for one at a big price. GROVE FERRY catches the eye. I’ve had him in my notes that he has it in him to win a big one and perhaps this is a bit out of reach with a 5lb penalty but I know he is a very talented horse and with a bit of luck he should be right in the mix. 18/1 is a bit insulting and he can’t go unbacked. I can see this straight mile really suiting him and I’m confident of a big run!
Brentford Hope will be smuggled up under Spencer but he won’t be too popular after his ride on our NAP last night (Air To Air – give it a watch if you haven’t seen it). Spencer usually bounces back quickly and this would be typical so Brentford Hope is definitely considered with potential for more to come. Cable Bay colt River Nymph also made my shortlist and might be worth a saver.
Newbury 3.25 EBF BetVictor ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Mares’ Hurdle (A Limited Handicap) (Grade 2) (Series Final) Class 1 2m41/2f
This race is usually won by mares who go on to much bigger races such as Roksana, Annie Mc and Snow Leopardess. There are a few good mares in here but all with questions to answer. We are siding with MARADA who ran out a good winner against the opposite sex last time which looks some of the best form on offer. She clearly thrives on better ground and if this extra half a mile is in her reach she will go very close in this on the forecast ground.
Rose Of Arcadia is the main danger and fair favourite however she has done all of her best work on very testing ground as she is a strong stayer and it could be a bit quick for her on Saturday. Similar comments could be applied to Misty Whisky who is clearly talented but probably prefers it with a bit more cut under foot.
Doncaster 3.45 Unibet Cambridge Trophy Stakes (Listed Race) Class 1 6f
The money keeps coming for SUMMERGHAND so he could end up being a well backed favourite come post time. This son of Lope De Vega is a decent yardstick and he caught the eye beaten less than a length at Wolverhampton last time. A well-run sprint on a straight track should be an ideal scenario for him and I think he’s going to take a bit of beating. Just Frank, Gioia Cieca and Extrodinair should go hard and that will help set it up for him.
Brando obviously has tons of back-class but I think he’d want a softer surface than this and he isn’t getting any younger. The market hasn’t missed him so zero value in his price for me. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Emaraaty Ana run a big race at an each way price if you wanted a saver.

With 8 races live on ITV Racing on Saturday we have picked out two horses at decent odds we can see running well. If both place we should still make some nice profit so they’re worth including.
