Musselburgh 1.50 Betway Musselburgh Silver Arrow Handicap (Class 3) 7f

A tricky race to kick off ITV on Saturday and I’m going to take a chance on one bouncing back here in THREE SAINTS BAY. He was last seen running over C&D in October last year and went down just over a length having tried to make all. He was only denied late by Marshal Dan and that horse is a 6/1 chance here so I think 11’s about the selection at the time of writing is too big given he is the most likely leader again. He disappointed at Catterick on final start last campaign but if he is rejuvenated for his new yard with track and trip figures of 4441332 I think he’s a great each way bet.

Marshal Dan is definitely one of the dangers but he is high enough in the handicap. Stone Soldier was last seen winning at Southwell but his turf form is a bit concerning and I think he’s too short. Molls Memory would be my idea of the main danger as she likes this trip and remains lightly raced for her age so there could be more to come.

Haydock 2.05 Betway Challenger Two Mile Hurdle Series Final Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 1m71/2f

Really small field for this race compared to previous runnings and it doesn’t look the highest quality. SHANTOU EXPRESS brings in some great form after a close second to the promising Pay The Piper which looks rock solid. He is clearly well thought of as they pitched him into a top class Grade 2 won by My Drogo prior to that too. Betfair Hurdle winner Soaring Glory was back in third on that occasion so that shows you the strength of that form given he went on to compete in the Supreme at the Cheltenham Festival. He was put up 6 pounds for his second at Wetherby last time which seems a tad harsh but he could have plenty to come and will go well in this.

The main danger looks to be the favourite at the time of writing Vision Du Puy. She won nicely at Stratford last time and only goes up 5 pounds for the Skeleton’s who are having a cracking season and you would think she will go well on this better ground. I Just thought Shantou Express has the form edge and is a bigger price. Xcitations is the one I think will fill the places with 2 wins already this season but up 10lb it might be a bit much for win purposes.

Musselburgh 2.25 Betway Royal Mile Handicap (Class 2) 1m

I do think Heights Of Abraham is going to run a big race here for Keith Dalgleish and I’ll probably end up having a saver to place or without the fav but my main selection has to be FOREST FALCON for Mark Johnston. This son of Raven’s Pass ran in a strong maiden at Sandown behind Etonian and he was still very much learning his trade on that occasion. He was restless in the stalls before being rushed up to lead and then faded late. He was then freshened up and showed improved form to open his account impressively at Yarmouth up to a mile for the first time. He is a colt I expect to really progress this season and this looks a good starting point.

I expect Heights Of Abraham to chase him home having impressed at Doncaster and Colonel Faulkner looks best of the rest with his opening mark looking fair. Tornadic is also prominent in the betting and is another one you cannot entirely rule out in a race that should throw up plenty of future winners.

Haydock 2.40 Betway Challenger Staying Chase Series Final Handicap Chase (Class 2) 3m111/2f

This looks wide open and I am looking to take a chance on one who will be better in these conditions and that is VERSATILITY. Henderson has said that he made a mistake early at Sandown last time which was his first run after a wind-op and after that Nico de Boinville took it easy on him. He now has his favoured ground which all his good chase form is on and has been dropped a pound for the last run. In these conditions I fully expect him to outrun his odds at a big price at the time of writing.

You have to respect the favourite for the Skelton’s but it’s hard to fully trust him even though it does look like the wind-op has had a positive effect. Checkitout is the main danger as he has won his last two with ease and will be in the mix to land his hat-trick at 8/1. Silvca Eclipse and Tea Time On Mars also made the shortlist in an open race.

Musselburgh 3.00 Betway Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap (Class 2) 5f

Cracking race live on ITV now with the Scottish Sprint Cup from Musselburgh! Any of about 5 or 6 could win this so it’ll be no surprise that we’ve backed two in the race. I was tempted to stick Jabbarockie up as he has a likeable profile coming into this and will be ridden forward but with Caspian Prince likely to pester him on the lead I just decided to look elsewhere at bigger prices. Hollie Doyle continues to impress and she saddles up CAME FROM THE DARK for Ed Walker. This son of Dark Angel always gives the impression he has a big one in him and brushed aside a good field to win at Haydock in September last year. He has had a wind op since last seen and has won fresh in the past so good reason to expect more to come this season.

At a bigger price VICTORY ANGEL could be worth a few quid each way. This horse failed to fire in his last couple of runs last season but he did strike twice over C&D in September and posted a good time on the last occasion cutting through the pack before keeping on strongly. This is a tough ask on return but he is down 2lb from his last run and given he loves it here I think he’s overpriced at around 16/1 at the time of writing.

Haydock 3.15 Betway Challenger Stayers Hurdle Series Final Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 3m1/2f

3 of the last 4 runnings of this race have been won by horses 8/1 or above and SUPAKALANISTIC looks a bit overpriced at the time of writing. He has finished 1st or 2nd on his last 7 outings and his best form figures are over this trip despite plenty of runs at 2 miles. He ran a good second behind Sultans Pride who looks a decent horse. The top 3 pulled well clear and the third placed horse has ran well at Carlisle since to finish second. I thought he would be vying for favouritism for this and will happily take the double-figure price on offer at the time of writing.

Ashtown Lad was very impressive earlier in the season especially his run in a handicap at Uttoxeter. He has since been running in Grade 2’s which were a bit out of his depth and should run well despite carrying top-weight. The main danger though could well be Small Present who is lightly raced and is going for a hat-trick and clearly likes the forecast ground.

Musselburgh 3.35 Betway Queen’s Cup (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) 1m6f

It’s been the story of the day but another fiercely competitive handicap to cap off ITV Racing on Saturday. NATE THE GREAT showed battling qualities to finally return to winning ways at Wolverhampton last month and that form gives him a big chance here back on turf. He has often hinted as a horse that is capable of better than what he’s showing so it was good to see him get his head back in front last time. He is by Nathaniel so should continue to progress with age and a mark of 95 remains well within reach based on old form. He actually won at this track off a mark of 100 as a 2yo so looks to have a big shout over this staying trip this afternoon.

Given the nature of the race I’ve had a saver too and GLENCADAM GLORY could be overpriced if he bounces back. He chased home Fujaira Prince in the Ebor in August last year and that sort of form would see him a danger to all. I know he has failed to show much since but he has a hit and miss record so it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see him go close (hopefully second to Nate The Great). He will push forward and if he manages to dictate that will aid his chance. Themaxwecan, Cardano and Indianapolis all made the shortlist.
