Newmarket 1.50 Back And Lay On Betfair Exchange Handicap (Class 2) 1m4f

A wide open handicap to kick off 1000 Guineas day live on ITV Racing. I’ve taken a chance on GRAND BAZAAR bouncing back to form. If anyone can get a tune out of him then it’s Dettori and on his best form he would have a massive chance. That win over C&D in September was very convincing and I think his York effort is best forgiven. At 9/2 he looks the value play and I’m anticipating a big run.

Zabbel Champion is chasing a hat-trick and should run well. Looks the danger but I don’t think he should be as short as 5/2 as this almost certainly requires another step forward off a career high-mark. Rodrigo Diaz is also on a roll but is up 10lb now on turf so enough to put me off.

Salisbury 2.05 AJN Steelstock “Delivering Steel Expertise” City Bowl Handicap (Class 3) 1m6f

A very interesting renewal of this race with quite a few horses very much on the up and OPERA GIFT is the one I like. He was last seen finishing a close second at Doncaster in October and that form looks top class. Ocean Wind who won that day has comeback this season and ran Stradivarius and Sir Ron Priestly close which we know is a big step up on a race at this level. The latter won again at Newmarket yesterday. If the selection is in the same form as that run first time up he will take this.

Prince Alex is obviously an eye-catcher having won his last 5 but this requires more back from a 205-day absence and a mark of 86 could prove a bit beyond him. Ispahan definitely has potential and I think he’ll be the one to chase the selection home with the pair likely to be waited with in the early stages.

Newmarket 2.25 Betfair Pretty Polly Stakes (Listed Race) 1m2f

Dubawi filly A’shaari made a bright start winning on debut and given she is a sister to Wuheida connections will hope she can take this before going on to bigger and better things. She looks the one to beat but I do think it’s worth chancing ALBA ROSE here. This filly by Muhaarar ran a solid race when third to Isabella Giles in the Rockfel here and that last effort was on heavy ground so she should relish the return to a sounder surface and can outrun her odds which look too big to me.

Sea Karats has been well backed and cost 500,000 guineas as a yearling but she needs a fairly big step forward on that debut run to play a hand here and I’d prefer the fav to her in a match. Of the rest Lady Hayes won her first two starts but she needs to prove herself up in trip on return in top company.

Hamilton 2.40 MansionBet Beaten By A Head Buttonhook Handicap (Class 3) 1m5f

This doesn’t look a deep race and the progressive BEN LILLY looks a strong favourite. He has won his last two and is seemingly getting better with every run. He seems versatile regarding trip and ground so coming back to 1 mile 5 furlongs doesn’t look to be and issue and based on the times he has been running and if anything it could end up being better for him. I would be disappointed if he isn’t bang there.

Great Esteem is ultra-consistent over a furlong shorter and Archie Watson’s gelding looks to have strong place claims at least and rates the main danger. Hochfeld showed a great attitude to prevail last time but the feeling is he’ll need more here if he is to go and follow up.

Newmarket 3.00 Betfair Dahlia Stakes (Group 2) 1m1f

Queen Power last won over 2 years ago and I’m quite surprised she heads the betting for this. She is a classy mare on her day but there’s enough to take her on with here and I’m a layer rather than a backer. LADY BOWTHORPE is capable of a big performance on her day and she is the one I’m siding with. That win at Ascot in July was impressive and while she was held at Sandown and here in October when last seen she could easily progress again as a 5yo and looks a cracking each way play in a wide open renewal of the Dahlia Stakes.

Sea The Stars mare Lavender’s Blue is the danger as she made a winning return and her previous form stacks up. She isn’t always the most consistent though which swayed my final decision towards the value of the selection. At a bigger price Posted is also worth respecting on her best form.

Hamilton 3.15 MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed EBF Tangerine Trees Conditions Stakes (Class 2) 5f

It may have only attracted a small field but this looks a competitive little race. Dragon Symbol is the odds-on favourite at the time of writing after impressing on the AW with some easy wins but he hasn’t yet done it at the minimum trip or on turf so as good as he is I am reluctant to back him at odds-on. MUKER has some great form and looks a nice price with the favourite being so short. The selection was just touched off in a Group 3 at Dundalk last year and ran a good race on his comeback. If improving for that he will go well in this and I think he can lay it down to Dragon Symbol.

The other horse in the field who will be in the mix is Burning Cash who was just in front of the selection on the comeback run but I think the selection has better form overall and at peak fitness so should have his number. Significantly is worth a mention as he is clearly talented but doesn’t always channel it in the right direction.

Newmarket 3.40 Qipco 1000 Guineas Stakes (Group 1) 1m

The NAP bumped into one yesterday so hopefully we can get back on track this afternoon. We focus on the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket where SANTA BARBARA reappears. She kept on strongly in the closing stages and did it in the style of a very exciting filly. With tons of improvement to come she could be a cut above these potentially and I’m finding it hard to oppose. The yard have won 4 of the last 5 runnings and if the vibes are right she could be very smart.

Sacred won the Nell Gwyn in good style but I hardly thought she’d be a Guineas winner on the form she showed last season. Alcohol Free scrapped home in the Fred Darling and she will need to take a big step forward to emerge as a danger.
