Newmarket 3.40 Santa Barbara (15/8)
Camelot filly who created a big impression winning as she liked on debut at the Curragh in September last year; put away since with this the target and highly regarded so very much falls in the ‘could be anything’ category; big chance.
The NAP bumped into one yesterday so hopefully we can get back on track this afternoon. We focus on the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket where SANTA BARBARA reappears. She kept on strongly in the closing stages and did it in the style of a very exciting filly. With tons of improvement to come she could be a cut above these potentially and I’m finding it hard to oppose. The yard have won 4 of the last 5 runnings and if the vibes are right she could be very smart. Sacred won the Nell Gwyn in good style but I hardly thought she’d be a Guineas winner on the form she showed last season. Alcohol Free scrapped home in the Fred Darling and she will need to take a big step forward to emerge as a danger.

Salisbury 2.05 Opera Gift (9/4)
Well bred sort who improved from his debut run to win at Pontefract and Yarmouth; stepped forward again when going down just half a length up to this trip at Doncaster on final start; more to come now so big chance up 6lb.
I think it’s hard to look past OPERA GIFT at Salisbury on Sunday. This son of Nathaniel is open to plenty of improvement having won 2 from 4 as a 3yo and this looks a good starting point. He should keep improving with his racing and with both Boss Power and Gumball likely to go forward he should get a nice toe into this before being produced late on by David Probert. Prince Alex is obviously an eye-catcher having won his last 5 but this requires more back from a 205-day absence and a mark of 86 could prove a bit beyond him. Ispahan definitely has potential and I think he’ll be the one to chase the selection home with the pair likely to be waited with in the early stages.
