Race 8 Belmont Park 9.40 Lake Avenue (11/8)

Progressive filly who has won her last two in the style of a nice prospect; left previous form behind to bolt up over 7f at Gulfstream and took another step forward geared down to win by a wide margin at Aqueduct last time; hard to oppose.

After back-to-back winning doubles Stateside it was a tough night last night with a 14/1 surprise in the Kentucky Derby. We’re looking to get back on track tonight as we head to Belmont for our best bet of the evening. The hat-trick seeking LAKE AVENUE looks the one to beat in the penultimate race on the card. This filly is improving fast and her last win over this trip was very impressive so it’s no surprise to see her pitched back into a Grade 2 now. She is proven at this level and on recent form is hard to fault. Our Super Freak is the obvious danger as she has been knocking on the door and has a very consistent look to her form. Water White won well last time but this demands more.

Race 6 Santa Anita 11.49 Just Distorted (2/1)

Good looking filly who made a really encouraging start finishing second on her racecourse debut over track and trip in February; that form has worked out notably well so with the promise of more to come she can go one better and make the breakthrough.

We head to Santa Anita for our second best bet Stateside tonight and I’m surprised JUST DISTORTED is as big as 2/1 here. She shaped really well on debut and with improvement a near certainty she can make the breakthrough here. The form of that initial run couldn’t really have worked out any better so this looks a great opportunity. Ginja has more experience having had two runs and did impress when second last time. If she progresses again she should put up the most resistance to the selection. Lady Aces was beaten 2 lengths on debut finishing fourth and while she looks to have good potential going forward she might just need a bit more time to win a race like this.
