Chester 1.45 ICM Stellar Sports Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes (Class 2) 5f
With Armor a non runner now I’ve decided to put forward the hat-trick seeking NAVELLO for the Chester opener. This colt by Ivawood is improving fast and from the box seat he can go right on with it here. He has just 3 rivals to beat now so it looks a great opportunity.
Devious Angel was always going to be popular for Tom Dascombe and given fillies do well in this race she has to be feared but she’ll need to improve on that Southwell form to trouble the selection.
Chester 2.15 Weatherbys ePassport Cheshire Oaks (Listed Race) 1m3/12f
The Cheshire Oaks looks very interesting this year with the majority of the field stepping up in trip which could see substantial improvements. DUBAI FOUNTAIN has the best form in the book and is bred to better at this trip. Her run in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket reads really well with Mother Earth going on to take the 1000 Guineas on Sunday and we all know the winner of that race Pretty Gorgeous is top class. She won first time out last season and if she can run to the level of her mile form at this trip she will be hard to beat.
Zeyaadah is 3-3 but she won’t get away with giving too much ground away at the start here so that has to be a concern. Darlectable You is well related and it wouldn’t surprise me if she improved to chase the selection home.
Newton Abbot 2.30 Racing Partnership TRP Handicap Chase (Class 2) 2m5f
Quite tough to pick a winner here but at the prices I do think HUNTSMAN SON is the value play. He made light of an 18-month absence when running out an impressive winner at Wetherby in October. While he hasn’t really built on that since he was better than the bare result at Cheltenham behind The Shunter and unseated in the Topham last time. Granted a clear round he definitely has the ability to take a hand here and looks a good each way bet off a mark that should be within reach.
Lalor didn’t shape too badly back from 441 days off the track before pulling up. Back in trip here with that under his belt he could give a good account. Eritage is consistent and should also be thereabouts despite a 7lb rise.
Chester 2.45 tote+ At tote.co.uk Handicap (Class 2) 5f
This looks a wide open running of the sprint handicap where SHOWALONG gets a tentative vote. Tim Easterby won this race with Copper Knight in 2017 and like that horse he managed to get a run in Showalong before going for this. His form in novice company looks solid especially his win at York in October. Off a mark of 85 I think he has to be making the frame at least and I would be disappointed if he doesn’t go very close.
First Company has his sights lowered as he was last seen in group company and with a very good draw in 2 he is the main danger to the selection. Army Of India is a nice looking sort who also made the shortlist and is respected.
Chester 3.15 Chester Vase Stakes (Group 3) 1m41/2f
Godolphin hold the key here with the top 2 in the betting and ready preference is for Charlie Appleby’s WIRKO. This Kingman colt improved from a promising debut at Wolverhampton to win at Kempton in November last year. He came on again to get up in the closing stages and score by a head at Epsom last month, doing all his best work late. With the step up to a mile and half likely to unlock further improvement he looks the one to beat here. The form of that last run should stack up and he recorded a good time too so everything is suggesting he is the one to beat.
Law Of The Sea is chasing a hat-trick and he keeps improving with racing so has to be feared. Sandhurst disappointed in the Craven but will come into his own up in trip so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him bounce back and run well too.
Chester 3.45 tote+ Pays You More At tote.co.uk Handicap (Class 3) 6f
I looked at this race a few times to try and oppose UNCLE JUMBO who has to give the whole field a fair bit of weight but every time I came back to him as the most likely winner. He has the best form in this by some way and with his prominent run style he will be well suited by the draw in 2. If running to the level of form he has shown he will be hard to peg back off the front.
Selected looks the main danger back at 6 furlongs with plenty of credible efforts at the track and may have needed the run first time out. He does have a double-figure draw to contend with so will need plenty of luck though. Tanfantic also respected.
