NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE NAP (BEST BET) WON YESTERDAY AND RUNS AT CHESTER AGAIN ON THURSDAY!
Chester 3.15 Japan (7/4)
High-class animal who takes a big drop in class on return stepping up in trip; can see this track suiting if he gets a good early position so every chance he will be travelling strongly with Ryan Moore ready to press the button; most likely winner.
The front two are clear on official ratings here and with Trueshan having to carry a 5lb penalty for his Long Distance Cup win at Ascot that tilts the balance firmly to JAPAN who will win this if back to anywhere near his best. The latter was a dual Group 1 winner in 2019 and is definitely the classiest horse in the field. Hopefully we doesn’t get too far back and he is poised to pounce in the closing stages. Trueshan is obviously respected and it wouldn’t surprise me if they finish the 1-2 with Morando probably best of the rest as the betting is suggesting. Sonnyboyliston was progressive last season but will need to be just as good if not better over this longer trip to have any sort of a chance.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS AT HUNTINGDON ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON!
Huntingdon 2.25 Rooster Cogburn (15/8)
Well held on chase debut when third to Kap Auteuil but the experience wasn’t lost on him improving to win by 7 lengths at Market Rasen last month; up 9lb but really impressed the last day and with more to come can win again.
This doesn’t look an overly strong race so it’s a good opportunity for ROOSTER COGBURN to follow up. He won really well last time and a 9lb rise looks fully warranted. He is obviously open to significant improvement having only raced twice over fences and is hard to oppose. Only Money looked to need the run when fifth over C&D last month but his free-going style is a bit concerning as he tends to do too much early. Lots Of Luck was pulled up last time but would be a danger if bouncing back. Enough questions to answer at present though. Buck’s Bin’s also failed to complete following a wind op last month and is another one who is hard to recommend in a race lacking strength in depth.
