Newbury 1.50 BetVictor Carnarvon Stakes (Listed Race) 6f
For a 7-runner race this looks quite a deep contest even with the selection TACTICAL clear on ratings and at the weights. His comeback run when beating Naval Crown looks solid form as he has run well in the Guineas since finishing fourth to Poetic Flare. Back down to 6 furlongs for this shouldn’t be an issue as he is competitive at Group 1 level at that trip even though I think Group 2 might be his current level but should be good enough to win this event.
Creative Force is the main danger as he is improving with every run. If progressing as much as he did between his last two runs he will give the selection a good race. Happy Romance has been running predominantly against her own sex and even though her time on the all-weather last time was amongst the best on offer her times on turf leave a bit to find. Spycatcher ran with credit in a better race last time and isn’t discounted with Ryan Moore onboard.
Newmarket 2.05 Betway Fairway Stakes (Listed Race) 1m2f
I think we could have a very smart horse on our hands here in the shape of JOHN LEEPER for Ed Dunlop. This colt is impeccably bred being by Frankel out of Snow Fairy and he made an impressive return storming clear to win at Newcastle last month. He clocked a decent time in the process and with improvement a near certainty I think he can make it 2 from 3 here before going on to better things. He is a 16/1 chance for The Derby and I wouldn’t put you off having a few quid each way at that price as if he wins this impressively he’ll shorten up plenty.
Fancy Man has reached a decent level of form and looks a solid yardstick. The drop back in trip should suit him and he is the most likely danger but I’ll be disappointed if he manages to beat the selection. Tasman Bay looks to be best of the rest having chased home subsequent Dante winner Hurricane Lane in third at Newbury last time.
Newbury 2.25 Al Rayyan Stakes (Registered As The Aston Park Stakes) (Group 3) 1m4f
This is a race I love as it is only a Group 3 by name and usually features some top performers with this renewal looking no different. It was a tough call but I am willing to give LOGICIAN another chance after he was defeated for the first time at York at the end of last season. He is hard to train and is very fragile that’s why we haven’t seen him that much since his impressive St Leger win. He showed he still retained plenty of class winning on his return at Doncaster last season and if he is back to his best on his comeback run he will win this.
Al Aasy is clearly a big danger and you can see why he is the favourite especially with fitness on his side but he still has a bit find with Logician at his best. I expect them to fight out the finish with hopefully the selection coming out on top. Thunderous improved for the run and step up to this trip but he would need more to beat the top 2.
Newmarket 2.40 Betway King Charles II Stakes (Listed Race) 7f
A competitive renewal that can go the way of BELLOSA for Jane Chapple-Hyam. The money was down over C&D at the Craven meeting on debut and she certainly didn’t disappoint, making all unchallenged under Oisin Murphy. She showed electric speed that day and had them all cooked at half way. This is a big step up straight into Listed company but the feeling is she could be pretty smart and connections will be hoping she can make it 2-2 here. Devilwala likes to go forward but I don’t think that will deter Richard Kingscote pushing forward and looking to adopt similar tactics.
Cloudbridge is the one I fear most as he recorded some useful form as a 2yo and with the yard’s 3yos running so well he could take another step forward now. Hopefully the selection is away and gone and he makes up good late ground for second. Fundamental wasn’t disgraced in the Greenham and is also worth considering.
Newbury 3.00 BetVictor London Gold Cup Handicap (Class 2) 1m2f
A race that usually favours horses with limited runs or handicap debutants and whilst there are some hotly fancied runners at the head of the market KING FRANKEL on handicap debut looks good value. His best trip seems to be 1 mile 2 furlongs based on his 32 length win last time and a very good second over the trip at Goodwood in September. Now they know that going from the front sees him in his best light he will outrun his double-figure odds and be hard to catch especially if getting it easy on the front.
The unbeaten Tamborrada and Bay Bridge are the main dangers as they are improving rapidly, especially the former. They both have to give the selection plenty of weight though and I think King Frankel can mix it with the more fancied runners in this.
Newmarket 3.15 Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap (Class 2) 6f
I’m keen to give BICKERSTAFFE another chance here. He really impressed me flashing home to beat another promising horse in Popmaster at Pontefract and while he could only finish third over C&D last time he shaped as a horse still learning and he was only beaten 2 lengths at the line. I think he’ll come on for that experience and this bigger field should help him settle. With the promise of more to come 12/1 just looks too big. I’d take that price as I think he’ll go off plenty shorter. He won in soft ground on debut so if the rain comes that could suit him if anything.
Perotto was in front of the selection last time and looks the biggest danger but is less than half the price. Jumby looks capable of better so it’s no surprise to see him prominent in the betting, also has to be feared. Seven Brothers has a progressive look to his form and also can’t be ruled out in what looks a good race.
Newbury 3.35 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes (Group 1) (British Champions Series) 1m
One of our favourite horses in training is back out and has a great chance of winning this. PALACE PIER is aiming to make it 7 wins from 8 runs and after his romp in the bet365 mile he should be at peak fitness. He has won two Groups 1s already and that’s unlucky not to be three as he lost a shoe in his only defeat at Ascot at the end of the last season. He is 8 points clear on ratings and I would be very surprised if he was beaten which is very much reflected in his price.
I liked Lope Y Fernandez comeback run and he is the main danger to the selection but he does find it hard to get his head in front at this level. Top Rank rarely runs a bad race and knuckled down well for pressure to win at Doncaster. It’s no surprise to see connections have a crack at this and he looks best of the rest.

ITV Racing Each Way Double
With 7 races live on Saturday we have two horses (including the Longshot) running live on ITV Racing that we really fancy to go close. They are both big odds so I’ve decided to back them in an Each Way Double. If both place we should still lock in some profit.
