Sandown 5.45 Play Coral ‘racing-super-series’ For Free Handicap (Class 5) 1m2f

Not the deepest race especially in these softer conditions and BAD COMPANY looks the one to beat after a cracking comeback run at Windsor. His second that day ended his streak of 4 wins in-a-row but he should be far better for the outing and only being raised a pound I would be disappointed if he got beaten. His versatile with regards to ground which can’t be said for the plenty of these and it is hard to find anything that with form like he has coming into this.

Noble Masquerade was denied a run when third at Nottingham but didn’t exactly back that up when fifth at Windsor last time. He was well backed though and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him step forward again and emerge as the main danger.

Sandown 6.15 Coral ‘Beaten By A Length’ National Stakes (Listed) 5f

Navello is three from four now and did win the Lily Agnes impressively at Chester. This is a very different test though and while he is progressive I think it might be worth taking him on with the unbeaten VALUE TIP. The latter won with a bit up his sleeve last time and the clock certainly backed that up. With further improvement to come he looks an exciting prospect and 4/1 just looks too big to pass up.

Choux made a bright start winning on debut and while this is tougher she also looks to have a bright future so I expect her to run a big race too. Definitely a race to watch back a few times as there are some promising types taking their chance.

Sandown 6.50 Coral Henry II Stakes (Group 3) 2m

This looks between the Ocean Wind and NAYEF ROAD. I have sided with the latter as he is double the price at the time of writing and there really isn’t much between them. Nayef Road has held his form prior to his last run so well and back at 2 miles we should see him at his best again. If it weren’t for Stradivarius he would have won far more Group 1s and this looks like a fair opportunity to add more black type to his record.

Ocean Wind is obviously the danger after just finishing in-front of the selection at Ascot but this could play out slightly differently from a tactics perspective and on all known form and prices I am happy to take him on today.

Nayef Road 4/1

Sandown 7.25 Coral Brigadier Gerard Stakes (Group 3) 1m2f

Sangarius made a pleasing return chasing home Armory at Chester and while he is expected to take a step forward now I’m not sure this small field scenario is ideal and he can pull hard so I think he might be opposable. NOTEBOOK looks the pace angle in here and if he gets a soft lead I don’t think they’ll reel him in. He showed what he’s capable of last summer and that third to Waldkonig over C&D last month should leave him spot on for this. I can’t see how he doesn’t go close!

Fox Tal somehow found a way to get beat last time and he is always one to oppose for me. Undoubtedly talented but doesn’t really enjoy being a race-horse. Euchen Glen and Oriental Mystique both have something or other to prove and look opposable on the balance of form.

Sandown 8.00 Coral Whitsun Cup Handicap (Class 3) 1m

This doesn’t look a strong renewal and I am going to take a chance on RANSOM bouncing back after his last run and continue his improvement. His form behind Ranchero looks very good and it wouldn’t take much more than that to win this. He should be better for the mile trip and I think 7/2 (at the time of writing) looks a good price on the Sir Michael Stoute gelding stepping forward again.

Newbolt could be the main danger if putting his last run behind him. His all-weather form is more than capable of taking this but just needs to do it on turf and he could be a big price if doing so.

Sandown 8.30 Coral ‘supporting Prostate Cancer’ Handicap (Class 4) 1m

A competitive handicap to close out an exciting card at Sandown but KNOWWHENTORUN catches the eye at a double-figure price. This colt by Mayson attracted support at Ascot last time and didn’t run too badly in sixth. He was held up last of all and given too much to do in hindsight. He did all his best work late in the day and should relish this test. He is lightly raced, especially in handicaps, and can do better yet. The soft ground should also help and I think he is definitely the value play in an open race.

Urban Violet returned with a convincing win in testing ground here last week and is a deserved favourite. She does have a penalty though and this is coming soon enough so not entirely bombproof. Encourage and General Lee complete the shortlist.
