THE US NAP (BEST BET) RUNS IN RACE 8 AT SANTA ANITA ON SUNDAY NIGHT!

Race 8 Santa Anita 12.52 Soothsay (1/1)

Promising filly who is a perfect 2-2 after impressing again this time over track and trip last month; found plenty for pressure and held on gamely at the finish; can improve again and looks hard to oppose here.

Some good racing Stateside tonight and SOOTHSAY looks a good bet to take the Summer Oaks at Santa Anita. This filly is 2 from 2 and she looks to have likeable claims as she bids to land the hat-trick and remain unbeaten. She was all out in the closing stages last time but was always doing enough to hold on gamely and with the promise of more to come she can see these rivals off too. Crazy Beautiful won the Gulfstream Park Oaks in good style on penultimate start but was all out on her feet in the Kentucky Oaks last time. This is obviously easier but she is facing a rival with considerable potential and might always be playing second fiddle. Lady Aces improved to win last time but this is much tougher.

Race 6 Gulfstream 8.26 R U Lucky (11/8)

Smart colt who has won 4 of his last 7 and was last seen running a big race in a much tougher contest than this; good starting point on return and can win this before going on to better things; hard to oppose.

There is no doubt in my mind R U LUCKY is the classiest horse in this race and if he is fit enough to do himself justice on return he can make a winning reappearance. He is proven at a much better level than this so I think he’ll be hard to beat tonight. Benefactor has run some good races in defeat and looks one of the most likely dangers to the selection. Royal Squeeze chased home Nacho Papa last time and that form also brings him into contention but he is surely vulnerable to younger legs here? Old Time Revival has been running at a better level than this without really threatening so needs to rediscover some form down in grade here but I think he has enough to prove on the balance of things.
