Epsom 2.00 World Pool At The tote Handicap (Class 2) 1m2f

This doesn’t looks the strongest race to kick off Derby Day and KING FRANKEL looks the one to beat. He won in good style at Pontefract before bumping into a good one last time in Bay Bridge. The latter has really stepped forward this year and that form line looks very good having drawn 4 lengths clear of the third. If it comes up softer that will suit him further as he seems to stay well and I think he has a very good chance of winning this and that’s very much being reflected in the market.

Patient Dream is one of the dangers after a nice win at the track last time but he hasn’t run at this trip before and will have to prove his stamina on ground softer than good which won’t be easy. Greatgadian could be the threat if settling better and Chase The Dollar is another to consider in terms of a place.

Epsom 2.35 Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Group 3) 1m1/2f

Statement was the one I had marked down as a big danger in here and the money has come for her so she has a big chance. That being said I think VALUE TIP is worth chancing at a bigger price. This mare by Kingman has some really strong form in the book and she should come on plenty for her reappearance run at Newmarket last month. She was held up that day and could never land a blow so I think it was very much a pipe-opener for this. It wouldn’t surprise me if she adopted more prominent tactics like we’ve seen in the past and I think she has plenty going for her.

Statement wasn’t seen to best effect in the Guineas last time and she is definitely the danger but like I said the value looks to have been squeezed out now. At a big price it wouldn’t surprise me to see Tomorrow’s Dream run well. She will find it tougher at this level but she is a double-figure price and might run into a place.

Epsom 3.10 Cazoo Diomed Stakes (Group 3) 1m1/2f

This race revolves around CENTURY DREAM who is looking for his third win in this race and on all known form he should be a class above these. He has been running in better races including his comeback run which he probably needed and considering he has won a Group 2 he will tough to beat if that run brought him back to full fitness. He has been popular in the betting since the market formed and with Maximal now out his task has become even easier.

Prince Eiji should reverse that recent form with the tough and consistent Oh This Is Us as that was his reappearance run so he should strip fitter now and can emerge as the main danger to the selection. Bell Rock has the cheekpieces refitted but can be a tricky ride so is respected but passed over.

Epsom 3.45 World Pool ‘Dash’ Handicap (Heritage Handicap) Class 2 5f

Caspian Prince has won the Epsom Dash three times already and the 12yo is back again for another crack! I really hope he gives connections a big run but in terms of from a betting perspective he looks opposable in current form. LORD RIDDIFORD landed back to back wins before blowing out up to 6f at Lingfield last time. I can see him relishing this test as he is all speed and at 14/1 he looks a knocking each way bet. I’ve found it quite a tough race to get a handle on in the past so backing something at a big price looks the way to go.

Copper Knight is probably the most solid option but he is too short at 8/1. Sunday Sovereign and Stone Of Destiny are both respected but I think there’s enough against to make them opposable. Recon Mission struck over C&D last time and he looms as a big danger off just a 3lb higher mark. Only Spoofing completes the shortlist but he is up 9lb from that Navan win.

Epsom 4.30 Cazoo Derby (Group 1) Class 1 1m4f

This years Derby looks a cracker even with Aidan O’Brien only running one in the race but usually when he just runs one you have to take note. BOLSHOI BALLET has been well backed since winning impressively at Leopardstown last month which was both visually impressive and very quick on the clock. He handles any ground and travels so powerfully and I think he will cruise round behind the lead and go shortly after the bend and it will take a good one to beat him.

With Bolshoi Ballet being a short priced favourite I thought I would back two in the race for a bit of value and that is THIRD REALM. His Lingfield Derby Trial win was very impressive and considering he was only pushed out the time was really good. He goes on any ground and he clearly stays this trip so 14/1 at the time of writing looks a big price and I’ve had a saver.

A couple I rate highly but am not sure it will be their day on Saturday are Mac Swiney who won the Irish Guineas two weeks ago and John Leeper. The former may struggle to back up that cracking run in a Classic just two weeks after that win and John Leeper was so keen due to the slow pace at Newmarket he was nearly unridable. So it was impressive to win that race but he needs to have learnt a lot to win around Epsom but is clearly talented.

Epsom 5.15 Northern Dancer Handicap (Class 2) 1m4f

Group One Power is all the rage for this but he is yet to record a time figure of any real note and he was well held in the end last time. I’m going to take a chance on WAIT FOR THE LORD for Elsworth. This mare by Bated Breath has been highly tried lately but did run a cracker when fourth in the Pinnacle Stakes at Haydock last time. This is easier and I think she still has scope off her current mark. At around 9/1 that will do for me and I think she’s going to go close especially if they go a good clip and it allows her to settle.

Soto Sizzle is the danger as he likes ht here and while he didn’t run to form at Newmarket last time I think that can be forgiven and I’m sure he’s going to run his race here which should see him in the shake up close home. Lost Eden was progressive on the AW but needs to prove it on turf. Still early days for him though so worth keeping an eye on.

Epsom 5.50 Cazoo Handicap (Class 2) 6f

Being over 6 furlongs this race pays to side with a horse drawn in single figures and usually the lower the better. It looks wide open so going with two in this. My main chance would be ATALANTA’S BOY who won on his comeback run at Goodwood and even though that was on fast ground he will handle anything. He is drawn in 6 and looks as though he will get a nice lead into the race and has a decent chance for David Menuisier who had a winner at the track on Oaks Day.

My bigger priced selection is right down the bottom of the weights and MUSCIKA could easily outrun his huge price. He has been dropping down the weights everything looks in his favour here, 6 furlongs, softer ground and De Sousa onboard who has given some ridiculously good rides from the front and I expect him to just go on this one.

The main threat to the selection is Aberama Gold who is in decent form this year and is drawn in one. The reason he wasn’t picked was he is given a fair bit of weight to the selections. The favourite at the time of writing is Desert Safari who is drawn in 3 and is improving again this season but the extra 4lb for the win at Goodwood may make life tough enough for him in a race as competitive as this.
