Musselburgh 3.55 Sky Bet Sunday Series EBF Newcomers’ Maiden Stakes (For horses which have never run) (GBB Race) Class 2 5f

What a puzzle we have to start the day. An unraced maiden with just 6 going to post. With not much to go on the eye is drawn to BUCKSHAW VILLAGE for Richard Fahey who has a good record at the track. He was the most expensive and looks well bred and he gets a tentative vote.

Drawdown comes from a yard that has done better than most of these with newcomers and is bred to be speedy so I expect her to be the main danger. As with most maidens the money in the market is worth checking pre-race and if Sherdil is popular he is one to keep an eye on being by Dandy Man.

Pontefract 4.10 Sky Bet Go-Racing-In-Yorkshire Summer Festival Pomfret Stakes (Listed Race) Class 1 1m

I know the price isn’t anything to get excited about but I really can’t see REGAL REALITY beaten here. He is a very talented horse and I think as long as he can get down to the start calm and collected and settles in the race then he wins. He is comfortably clear on ratings and I have no doubt he possesses the most ability in here. Hopefully they go a good clip and he can just target them and run them down. I know he isn’t entirely straightforward but if he has something to peg back that would be an ideal scenario. Even at a shade of odds-on he could look a great price as he is that good he could range up on the bridle and edge clear.

Brunch is the danger but even he himself has enough to prove off that run in the Royal Hunt Cup. I fully expect him to finish second but I’ll be surprised if he can get the fav off the bridle. Rhoscolyn saw his winning run come to an end last time but should run better here and is comfortably best of the rest.

Musselburgh 4.20 Sky Bet Sunday Series Apprentice Training Series Handicap (Part of the Racing Excellence Initiative) Class 4 1m1f

This looks a decent handicap with 10 going to post and there seems good value on offer with ASDAA a bigger price than I expected him to be. He won nicely over course and distance last month and that suggested he had plenty more to come as he has shown in his two runs since. Most recently he won by a nose on the all weather at Wolverhampton. He is up 5lb for that win but gets a 3lb claimer on him today and I think he could have more to come on turf and is a decent each way price.

The main danger for me is Tommy G who has been in outstanding form over a mile lately and is well worth stepping up an extra furlong and he is entitled to be bang there based on that form. Noble Crusade completes the shortlist.

Musselburgh 4.45 Sky Bet Sunday Series Nursery Handicap Class 4 5f

The hat-trick seeking VALUE TIP is improving and I think this is very much a case of having value in the favourite here. I don’t see her going off 3/1 come post time so I think it’s worth taking the price. She stayed on strongly at York last time and the second has franked the form since. An 8lb rise obviously demands more but she is open to further progress and looks the one to beat in here. There is tons of pace on so hopefully she just tucks in before getting a clear route through.

Tareekh landed back-to-back wins before disappointing at Pontefract but the ground was soft so he might bounce back here. I have him as the danger to the selection. Firebomb is knocking on the door and also deserves a second look but the selection does look to have greater potential in my book.

Musselburgh 5.15 Sky Bet Sunday Series Sprint Handicap Class 4 5f

This looks one of the most competitive races of the day with 17 likely to run and it is hard to rule many of these out. GOOD LUCK FOX looks a fair each way bet after his win here last month. He won it easily so you can see why he has to carry an extra 7lb for that win and if in the same form he will give you a good run for your money.

It is a wide-open race and it is hard to pick a main danger but a few more at each way prices that could go very well and out-run their odds are Gowanbuster and Primo’s Comet. Both of these two are in good form and go very well at the track. Gunnerside is thriving too so has an obvious shout.

Musselburgh 5.45 Sky Bet Sunday Series Fillies’ Handicap Class 4 1m

This looks a great opportunity for NOTEBOOK to go one better. This filly won 2 of her 4 starts as a juvenile and has returned with two promising efforts third at Ponty and then beaten less than a length at Newmarket last time. She won’t need to find much more improvement to go one better and with Deep Snow and Candescence now out this race has cut up a bit. She could go off a very short priced favourite. Real Terms is a danger as she ran well when second at Wetherby and that looks a solid piece of form. The issue is she is up 5lb and still hasn’t won so that’s enough for me to pass her over for now.

I do think Myristica can do better but I have to admit she has looked a bit slow. If it was to rain she’d definitely shorten up but I think she might be taken off her feet a bit here. She is one to keep on the radar but perhaps at a later date. Gometra Ginty is talented but is likely to go hard and set it up for the others.

Musselburgh 6.15 Sky Bet Sunday Series Handicap Class 4 7f

Another open handicap and I will be giving ETON COLLEGE another chance as he just looked overpriced at the time of writing. He has run twice at Musselburgh, winning once and finished third last time. He is only 1lb higher than his last winning mark and his last two runs suggest he won’t be far away at a big price.

Lion Tower is the main danger as he just seems to go well no matter what trip he is running at and in his current form they all need to be aware of him. Another horse who could be a bigger price than they should is Northernpowerhouse who is down to a mark of 84 and won’t be far away – might be worth a saver.

Musselburgh 6.40 Sky Bet Sunday Series Stayers Handicap Class 4 1m6f

I’m keen to side with WISE EAGLE here. He has now won 4 of his last 6 and went down just a neck at Ayr last time. I know he is off a career-high mark so will need more but he has a cracking attitude and this looks another good opportunity. I have this between him and Let Me Be. The latter has won 3 of his last 4 and still has scope to do better. He is up 3lb but should give the selection a race. I expect the pair to dominate and they might always be clear.

Hint Of Stars has won 3 of his last 4 and he has the ‘sexy’ profile coming into this but he is up 8lb and this longer trip might test him. I think he’s opposable. Euro Implosion is probably the one that’s overpriced as he is on a four-timer and has a likeable way of going – might be worth a saver.
