Glorious Goodwood 1.50 Unibet 3 Boosts A Day Goodwood Handicap (Class 2) 2m41/2f

This race always attracts a huge field and it usually pays to side with horses lower down the weights (particularly under 9 stone). I quite like CALLING THE WIND in this at a nice each way price. He travelled so well in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot and was only beaten by the much higher-rated Stratum. He travelled quite wide that day so likely has more to come and if in the same vein of form he will go close.

Being such a competitive race it is hard to pick just one danger but Smart Champion might be back down to a mark that he can take advantage of back up in trip. JUST HUBERT is another who is down in the weights and is actually 1lb lower than his winning mark in this last year. He could be the biggest threat as rarely runs a bad race here.

Glorious Goodwood 2.25 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) 1m

I’ve been a big fan of BAAEED for William Haggas and it’s no surprise to see him a short priced favourite for this given his perfect 3-3 record and the promise of more to come. He picked them up readily to end up winning by 4 lengths at Newmarket last time and while this is tougher he should relish a faster pace to run down and he is hard to get away from again. I think he’ll take this before going on to better things.

It’s quite hard to find a main danger and I’m probably happy to look away from El Drama. He has been disappointing the last twice and while this is easier I think Perotto could be the value to finish second. He wasn’t disgraced in the Bunbury Cup and this should suit him better albeit in stronger company.

Glorious Goodwood 3.00 Unibet Golden Mile Handicap (Class 2) 1m

Another big field handicap and over the mile trip it pays to be drawn low at Goodwood and that is exactly where PATH OF THUNDER is drawn (3). The application of blinkers for the first time at Newmarket 3 weeks ago seemed to bring out the best in him. He put in his best performance to date surging clear to win by 3 lengths. He only has a 3lb penalty for this race and is officially 5lb well-in at the weights and I think he will take a lot of beating.

Magical Morning is the obvious danger after his win at Sandown and probably had a bit in hand that day. That said he gives the selection 7lb which could be a difference maker considering he is drawn a fair bit wider. Of the rest RHOSCOLYN is still improving with every run and with a win under his belt at the track he could run a big race at a decent each way price.

Glorious Goodwood 3.35 King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) 5f

Battaash wasn’t disgraced in the King’s Stand finishing fourth and some would argue that was a good run given he had joint surgery over the winter but I’m keen to oppose him now especially at short odds. I’ve been looking forward to seeing DRAGON SYMBOL again since his July Cup second. I thought he ran huge there only denied by Starman in the closing stages. He fared best of those ridden prominently and the winner as impressive as he was had things drop his way. With Battaash and Good Effort likely to go hard he should get a good target to aim at here and under more patient tactics I think he’ll come home best. Oisin Murphy has said he is his best chance of the week and he already has a winner.

Art Power was fourth behind the selection in the July Cup and I’m struggling to see him reserve that as I think this will be more run to suit the selection but he shouldn’t be far away and in a sprint can never be entirely ruled out. At a bigger price Liberty Beach might be worth backing on bet365’s Each Way Extra as she wasn’t disgraced in the King’s Stand behind Oxted and if it rains that could bring her into it.

Glorious Goodwood 4.10 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Glorious Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) 1m4f

An interesting renewal of the Glorious Stakes with MOGUL turning up in a Group 3 for the first time in a year. On his day he is much better than this level and used this meeting last year to springboard his season. He won the Gordon Stakes before going on to two Group 1 wins. They probably have a similar plan with him this year and if he bounces back from Epsom he is the one to beat.

Euchen Glen is always interesting at this level but he is getting on a bit now so it remains to be seen whether he can back-up his impressive Sandown win here. OUTBOX is my idea of the main danger after just losing out to Hukum at York and looks a decent price to chase Mogul home.

Glorious Goodwood 4.45 Unibet Deposit 10 Get 40 Bonus Nursery (Class 2) 6f

This is fiercely competitive and I’m keen to take a couple at slightly bigger odds against this field. JADHLAAN looked a nice colt in the making winning at York last month and he was pitched into a tough race at Newmarket last time where Lusail and Asymmetric (won yesterday) fought out the finish. He remains open to further improvement and on handicap debut I think he is a big player here. He should be ridden prominently and he might take a bit of passing late.

Given the nature of the race I’m happy to play ROBJON as well. This Mukhadram colt has been running well in defeat and has potential off this mark with the yard going great guns. Quite a few dangers including Catch Cunningham, Tropez Power and Ever Given but not a race I’d go too mad in with Jadhlaan the main hope.

Glorious Goodwood 5.20 TDN Australia Handicap (Class 3) 1m3f

The finale on day 4 looks a competitive one with most of these likely to have plenty to come. MARCHING ARMY has stepped forward markedly on every run and his last run looked as though he had plenty still to come. He made all at Leicester and won it easily and has been given an opening mark of 87 which looks generous and if getting away quickly from the wide draw he will go very close in this. He has been a bit of a drifter in the market today but that isn’t putting me off.

Wink Of An Eye looks a tough ride but impresses once he gets going. He is still improving but I think the selection has scope for more than him. I actually think the form of BARN OWL makes him the main danger at a decent each way price. Bill Peyto and Ziggy are also both worth second looks.
