Newmarket 5.05 Rich Energy Fillies’ Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 4) (2YO only) 6f
Rum Cocktail was well punted on debut but could only finish fifth at Sandown and while she is likely to improve it might just be worth taking her on at short odds. SENSE OF DUTY is a filly by Showcasing and she is well bred so could make an impact on debut for William Haggas. I don’t think this is overly competitive so she may well learn on the job and make a winning start.
Rum Cocktail is an obvious danger if improving but Joking is also worth a second look. She is a filly by Time Test and she is also well related so it wouldn’t surprise me to see her run well first up.
Newmarket 5.38 Rich Energy Selling Stakes (Class 4) (2YO only) 7f
As with most sellers they aren’t the highest quality race and it really doesn’t look like it will take much winning on all known form. ALASKAN WIND ran a cracker at Chepstow to lose out by a head in June before not enjoying the best trip at Brighton where she was keen and short of room. If she runs to the level of her run at Chepstow she will be the one to beat.
The main danger looks to be Radio Caroline who ran well in a Listed event at Chester last month and if in that kind of form she will go close but has to give the selection 5lb. Of the rest All In Aladdin could be still improving and may fill the placings.
Newmarket 6.08 Rich Club With Rich Energy EBF ‘Newcomers’ Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 4) 7f
Another newcomer I’m looking forward to seeing at Newmarket on Friday night is Dubawi colt HAFIT for the boys in blue. He cost 2,100,000 as a yearling and is a half-brother to Bright Idea. He is bred to be useful and it’s no surprise to see him figuring prominently in the betting as they think a fair bit of him. This race has actually thrown up a few surprises in recent years with a 33/1 chance winning in 2017, 25/1 shot in 2018 and 25/1 chance again in 2019. Hopefully that isn’t the case tonight as the fav looks the one they all have to beat.
Thanks Monica looks the biggest danger on betting but I actually think Millennial Moon might be the one to give the selection a race. He is also by Dubawi and could be a nice colt in the making. Definitely worth a market check and might be worth backing without the favourite.
Newmarket 6.38 Rich Energy Powering You Handicap (Class 2) (3YO plus) 1m4f
This looks a highly competitive handicap even with just 6 going to post and it is the top weight I like ZABEEL CHAMPION. He has won twice already at this trip this season and both came on quicker ground. His last two runs were on a softer surface and I think the forecast quicker ground on Friday evening should see him at his best (Good to firm at the time of writing).
Makram and Boss Power are the main dangers with a slight preference for the latter. Boss Power only carries a 5lb penalty for a good win at Kempton and it does look like he thrives at this trip. Makram has been in top form and seems to be improving more the further he goes. Sam Cooke is out now so the field is down to just 6 runners.
Newmarket 7.08 Rich Energy Two Drinks One Taste Fillies’ Handicap (Class 3) (3YO plus) 1m2f
Only 3 runners head to post for this but I’m really keen on PRINCESS NADIA for John and Thady Gosden. This Sea The Stars filly bumped into Bahrain Trophy runner-up Mandoob at Haydock before making all back up to this trip at Newbury 3 weeks ago. She made all on that occasion and under positive tactics again I think she can boss these under Hollie Doyle.
Deep Snow has clocked some good times but she is up against a useful type in the fav and may have to settle for second again. Brunnera chased home Portfolio last time and that is also good form so I can see her running well without being good enough. All three of these might be worth following going forward.
Newmarket 7.38 Rich Energy Sugar Free Handicap (Class 3) (3YO plus) 6f
Only the 7 set to go to post for this handicap and it looks between the two recent course and distance winners ABATE and Dancinginthewoods. Abate won really nicely last week and is going for his hat-trick on Friday night. He has only been raised 5lb and has 7lb claimer Callum Hutchinson onboard again. On current form he looks like he has another win or two left in him in handicap company.
Dancinginthewoods is the danger and has only been raised 2lb for his win here 2 weeks ago. That said he did struggle around this mark earlier in the year and may not have much juice in his handicap mark. I don’t rate much else in the field with Beyond Equal the most likely to follow the two previously mentioned home.
