York 1.50
The Lowther is usually a springboard for the top fillies and SANDRINE looks like she could go all the way to the top based on her first 3 runs. She has won the Group 3 Albany and Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge on her last two runs and won them with plenty in the tank. She does have a 3lb penalty here but based on her form it will take one to improve a lot to beat her and don’t forget she is open to further progress herself.
If there was one I think that could improve enough to challenge the selection it could be Zain Claudette who is a neck away from being 3 from 3. She won her maiden with ease before taking a massive step forward to take the Group 3 Keeneland Stakes and could have more to come.
York 2.25
This is the race Mums Tipple won back in 2019. I highly doubt we’ll see a performance as mesmerising as that but I do think SMULLEN is going to run a big race at a nice price. This good looking chestnut has been gradually improving and he ran his best race to date when sixth in a sales event at Naas just over 2 weeks ago. I’m expecting him to improve for that experience and if he does he could get involved here. I know connections think a fair bit of him and this would have been on the agenda for a while. Kevin Ryan is also going well with a near 27% strike rate in the past fortnight so that’s another positive.
System improved to win a Listed race at Newmarket in June and wasn’t disgraced when midfield in the Princess Margaret Stakes. She has potential to do better so is probably the deserved favourite. Ever Given sets the standard so also deserves plenty of respect. Korker has won 2 from 4 and can also run well in a wide open renewal.
York 3.00
This 20-runner handicap looks one of the toughest races to call of the week at York and I have had two small bets in it. Jim Crowley won this from a low draw on Montatham last year and will fancy his chances of winning again on MAYDANNY. He won the Golden Mile at Goodwood last month by nearly 2 lengths and could have been good for a bit more. He does have to carry top-weight as a result but I think he may get an easy lead in a race that lacks pace and with a great draw in 3 he should go close.
My other bet will be close to the speed if getting across from stall 12 and FAME AND ACCLAIM looks a big price at 18/1. His last two runs look solid handicap form especially the one over course and distance, a repeat of which would see him go really well. Of the rest Escobar could be a big danger off the same mark as behind Maydanny at Goodwood and he found trouble in-running that day so could be closer at York where he has won before.
York 3.35
Wonderful Tonight will certainly have her loyal supporters here but for me she needed a bit of rain and she isn’t going to get that here. A dry day is forecast and the ground is already riding Good. It’s impossible to go against SNOWFALL on her 3 runs this season. She took the Musidora on return before blowing them away in the Oaks. She was just as good on a faster surface in the Irish equivalent last month and just looks head and shoulders above these.
Eshaada is probably the most interesting past the top 2 in the betting. She had looked quite promising after her Newbury win and looked unlucky at Ascot last time. She should arguably be 3-3 coming here and looks a good bet at 4/5 for a top 3 finish.
York 4.10
This looks a fairly deep Nursery handicap as you would expect with a prize fund of £70,000. They all probably have a bit to come but MAGLEV is likely better than his mark of 91 after having an awful trip to finish second at Chester in the 3-runner race. He was travelling so well and Tom Marquand stayed patient with him but the gap came so late he couldn’t quite get there. The way he travels the step up to 7 furlongs looks spot on and He will go very well.
Mr McCann has run really well at Group level already this season but as a result of his good form carries a penalty so the main danger could be Neptune Legend who took a big step forward when stepping up to this trip at Newmarket last time and could have more to come.
York 4.45
I’ve been a big fan of ABSTINENCE since she landed us a 33/1 winner at Chelmsford back in May. She was a big drifter on that occasion (opened around 14/1) and while she has been beaten twice since I think she has raised her game on both occasions. She only went down 4 lengths at Newcastle and that looked quite a good race. She showed plenty of promise again when trying this trip for the first time at Newmarket latest and given she is open to further improvement I think she has a big chance of tasting further success here. She is already being well supported so let’s hope the gamble continues!
Amma Grace is favourite and she ran well in a Group 3 at Cork on return. This is easier and she will be fitter now so she looks the danger and that’s very much being reflected in the betting. Portfolio was given a lot to do last time and is also progressing nicely so completes the shortlist.
York 5.20
Most of the runners in this carry low weights with Agincourt running which could be a great idea from David O’Meara who has won this 3 times previously and IMPROVISED looks to have a decent chance. She is lightly raced and has won her last 3 runs comfortably. That last run at Epsom reads really well on form with the second winning easily again this week and the race has turned out more winners as well. She looks to have plenty to come and from a wider draw it should setup perfectly for her last to first run style.
Agincourt drops into this from much better races but giving the rest of the field a minimum of 10lb it could be difficult. The danger on paper looks to the be the favourite at the time of writing Spirit Of Bermuda. She won her last two nicely and has put in some of the top time figures from any of this field and will go close.
York Ebor Festival Win Double
With the NAP running at York again on Thursday (Mishriff landed us a 9/4 winner yesterday) we have combined it with another confident selection to make a double. Pays 11/4!
York Ebor Festival Win Trixie
With so much high quality racing from York on Thursday we have also included another Win Trixie which includes 3 horses we fancy strongly. If 2/3 win we should still bank some profit. Pays 200/1!
York Ebor Festival Each Way Double
I didn’t want to leave these two out either so I’ve combined them into an Each Way Double at good odds both at York on Thursday. Again if both place we should get a return. Pays 80/1!
