Haydock 1.45

Only the 5 runners set to go in the Superior Mile this year but it does look a quality field. LORD GLITTERS is the highest-rated in here and at this level he is the one to beat. He is a multiple Group 1 winner and added another earlier in the year in Dubai. David O’Meara’s 8 year old isn’t showing signs of age at all, running well in some much better races than this already this season. He was behind the classy Real World at this level last time but I don’t think there is one as good as him in this field and he should take this.

Most of the challengers are coming out of handicaps with the best of them most likely to be Maydanny who has been in great form over the last two months but he has plenty to find with the selection. My Oberon is a classy horse but I feel he is at his best over further than a mile.

Kempton (AW) 2.05

Some nice types lining up here so it won’t be easy but I do think SCOT’S GRACE will go close. This filly by Mehmas bolted up on debut over C&D and that was impressive visually and on the clock. This obviously represents a step up in class but she could be a very nice prospect. Hopefully they go a good gallop as if she has a target to aim at that would see her turn of foot come into play in the closing stages.

Hierarchy impressed making it 2-2 at Salisbury recently and with more to come he could be the danger. Wings Of War was only beaten half a length in a fiercely competitive race at York and that also makes him a big player. This should throw up plenty of future winners.

Haydock 2.20

A race that usually produces a few good handicappers to follow in the next few years and a trainer that does well in this race is Andrew Balding. He saddles VALLEY FORGE in this race on Saturday and he looks to have plenty more to come. He may have only won his last two by small margins but he looks like a horse who just does enough to win. The race at York he won last time out looks a high quality race and is probably the best form on offer. He should go very well here and has a great chance to land the hat-trick.

There are plenty of dangers as you would expect in a £100,000 race and Vino Victrix looks the main one. He like the selection is on a hat-trick and even though he has won much poorer races he has done it well. At a bigger price Roseabad could make up the placings after a very good win at Carlisle last time and could be involved if stepping forward again.

Kempton (AW) 2.40

I know HUKUM was sent off fav to retain his Geoffrey Freer crown at Newbury last time but even still that was an impressive victory and on the figures it was a career best. He is such a strong travelling horse and given he has won at this level and at this track I don’t see what’s not to like. His overall profile reads 6 wins from 10 starts and he is hard to fault. Outbox should go hard again and that only enhances his claims.

Hamish was gambled for the Ebor but came out due to the ground. He has never run on this surface but is clearly plenty talented and could be the danger despite a lengthy lay-off. Hard to see Fox Til or Prince Of Arran proving good enough.

Haydock 2.55

This years Old Borough Cup is a tough one to call with a few classy sorts who don’t seem that well handicapped and improving types such as NOBLE MASQUERADE. He won his last race easily and creeps in here off a super light weight (8 stone 2lb). He has turned a corner since having blinkers fitted and I think he has more to come. He won the race at Windsor well to get him into this race and they have probably targeted this for him. If he improves again here he will go really well in this and at a decent price.

Global Storm has to be the danger even though he does have to give weight to the whole field. He didn’t have much luck in the Ebor last time and this is a fair bit easier. If he runs to the form of any of his 3 performances before York he will be right in the mix.

Ascot 3.10

Wahraan has been well backed for this and he did look a bit unlucky last time so he has to be feared but I wouldn’t want to take a short price in a race as competitive as this. The hat-trick seeking CHALK STREAM looks the value. This son of Sea The Stars backed up his York win with a convincing display at Ripon and the second Barn Owl has won since to frank the form. He is up 8lb but could still be ahead of the assessor and looks worth chancing to me.

Champagne Piaff landed a gamble at Windsor a fortnight ago and is unexposed so he could be the threat stepping up in trip. Alfaadhel ran well when second to Qaader at Goodwood and given Varian has won the last 2 runnings of this race he also has to be feared.

Haydock 3.30

This is the big race of the day and it has been a long time since the Sprint Cup was run on quick ground. With the ground coming up good to firm this race looks like STARMAN‘s to lose. He has already beaten plenty of this field when getting his conditions and has already taken the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket this year ahead of the very good Dragon Symbol. He came third in Deauville at this level when last seen but that was on soft ground which didn’t see him at his best. He is rated 4lb clear of this field and will be hard to beat.

Glen Shiel was second in this race last year but would prefer a softer surface. Art Power could well be the main danger to the selection back at 6 furlongs on quick ground. He has finished behind the selection twice though so it would take a big performance to reverse the placings.

Ascot 3.45

It often pays to stick with a horse proven over track and trip at Ascot and TOP SECRET fits the bill. He showed a good attitude to beat Spanish Star in July and has run two big races in defeat since. He went down just a neck at Newmarket, failing to get to a horse that made all the running having been held up. He then backed that up going down an agonising nose at Newbury to Neenee’s Choice who has since followed up convincingly to frank the form. He is up another 2lb but still looks on a favourable mark and ticks plenty of boxes.

Cliffs Of Capri failed to fire at York but was a good fourth in the International over C&D so it’s no surprise to see him prominent in the market. Via Serendipity won at Windsor last time but a 4lb rise in a tougher race demands more. Baashir could also be a danger if bouncing back.
